Being banded this summer

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I am new to this forum and wanted to say HELLO! I'm in the beginning stages of preparing for lap band surgery, and I am very excited! I have my first appointment with the nutritionist next week, then will have my sleep study done, blood work, etc... Any helpful tips or advice I can get would be much appreciated! One of my main concerns is how difficult it will be to adjust to the new diet POST surgery. I know all about the liquid diet pre and post surgery, but am hoping some of you can give me helpful tips on how to adjust to the permanent eating habit changes that will occur long term.

Thank you all -- I look forward to making new friends!

Lisa

Welcome Lisa and congratulations on your decision. The adjustment to your new lifestyle and eating is largely mental. As is often said, but very true, the band is only a tool and you have to make a commitment to make good choices. Good luck, keep us posted.

Welcome Lisa! My word of advice to you is to stay focused on your goal. It's very easy to be distracted by food especially during barbeque season.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
