I have a confession to make. . .

Okay - I had my first fill a week ago. I was sad at first because I didn't feel any restriction at all. Everyone told me to hang in there - sometimes you won't feel the full effect of a fill for a week or two. Well, I thought this was just crazy. It didn't make sense to me; if the band is tighter from the saline, why would it take a week to feel it? I don't know the answer to that, but I do know it is true. For the first time last night I finally felt a little bit of restriction. Now I know what everyone has been talking about. It really did take some time.

One unfortunate side effect of this discovery was that I was in some pretty serious discomfort, and some food did come back up. I wouldn't say that I vomited exactly, but food was traveling the way it shouldn't go (ie. out of my mouth). Now I am worried that my band may have slipped. Is this even possible? If it had, would I feel it? I think I am just being paranoid, but thought I would put this out there. You all have had such great advice for me in the past. Thanks!

what happened is what they call "PB'ing" (productive burp). It has happened to me twice. it is NOT vomiting.

It usually means that the food was not chewed well enough - and the little pouch area can not hold it adequately.

If you are worried about band slippage - you should call your surgeon's office IMMEDIATELY and get their advice.

hope this helps.

I doubt if your band slipped. I have PB'd a lot while trying to find out what foods I can and cannot eat. Sometimes if you don't take TINY bites, chew LOTS, and WAIT between bites, the food will come back up. But for me, there are a few foods (chicken, white Pasta, bread, salad, and pizza) that I cannot eat, even if I follow all of the above rules. Given them several tries and it's always a NO GO. Once you have PB'd on a food several times, you no longer look at it with wanting eyes. If you had told me a year or two ago that you could put something in me that would make me no longer want bread, pasta, and pizza, I would have said "Bring it on". I do miss my chicken and kinda miss salad. Who knows... maybe down the road I will be able to have small amounts of these foods. It's ok either way though. I LOVE MY BAND!!!! Good luck to you!! Becky

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
