Banded today..some discomfort..HELP!!!

Recommended Posts

OMG! I had a better night last night all because I was able to pass a lot of backed up gas. Who knew that 10 days post op I was still so loaded with gas. I do not want this to gross anyone out. I am posting because I want this entry to help someone else later who may be experiencing pain and discomfort and think something went wrong. I had to make myself have a bowel movement. I used adult size suppositories and Milk of Magnesia on post op day 7 and just a suppository on post op day 10. Day 10 was the break through day. I still have some discomfort on my left side, but I am no longer worried that something is wrong. I also know that I was not getting enough Protein. Protein helps to heal muscle. I had my DH go to GNC and purchase New Whey Protein in 42 gram vials on yesterday. I am sipping the protein throughout the day. I am also increasing my Water intake. I think I may have let myself get dehydrated. I am making a conscience effort to make myself better.

I was banded on Friday, June 5. My lung was punctured during surgery, so in addition to the shoulder and abdominal pain, I have a big plastic suringe and tubing sticking out of my chest.

I'm not getting full on the liquid phase foods. Any suggestions?

I'm eating popsicles, apple sauce, yogurt, a little fruit, cream of wheat, and egg beaters.

Thanks!

lindsayb I pray that you will be ok. I'm curious. What did your doctor do to make it up to you for that huge mistake? Wow..that is really scary. I am still on liquids. I was banded 5/28/09. Did your doctor put you on soft foods right after sugery? I am counting the days until I can get soft foods.

Yikes! I've never heard of that happening! That's pretty scary! How did they manage to puncture your lung?

Sorry to hear that you got a punctured lung. That's pretty rare I would think, but as long as you are mending...all will be o.k.

I ate chicken Soup and tomotoe Soup as well. the Knorrs are great Soups. You shouldn't be hungry unless there is absolutely no fill in the band. Remember it takes time and don't rush it. You have to heal inside first and the fact that you took the step to get banded should make you feel great soon.

Good Luck

I was banded on May 29th and I was starving during my liquid stage. I went to the doctor this past friday for my one week follow-up and he put me on mushies, and he said that if I do well with that this week I can start soft foods next friday.

I just started having pains in my left shoulder area yesterday. It feels like my muscles are really tense and I need a really good massage! I'm not sure if this is from gas or what, but it's uncomfortable to say the least. I'm not a big fan of pain meds--so I usually try to tough it out, but I'm thinking some tylenol might be helpful tonight to help me sleep through this pain.

I have to tell ya that this forum has been awesome. I know that the first few days post op I was sitting there totally regretting my decision to get the band. After a four days I started feeling better, and the regret went away. Reading these threads has helped me to realize that what I was feeling is normal and others have dealt with the same things.

Lindsayb, I wish you a speedy recovery! A punctured lung is crazy and I definitely feel for you. If your really hungry talk to your doctor and see if they will put you on mushies to help that feeling. When I started mushies it was like heaven. The first thing I had was SF choc. pudding and it was sooooo good! I'm less hungry now and even though I don't really feel any restrictions yet (scheduled to get first fill July 6th) I am noticing more of a full feeling than before I had the band. Hang in there, the liquid stage doesn't last forever!

good luck Vanity. You won't regret it.

I'm twice your age and wish I could have done it sooner.

Just remember it's a TOOL AND USE IT WISELY...

I sleep better not worrying about how I'm going to manage my day of eating...feel better...making wiser choices and just love everyday when I get up!

AMAZING....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
