i hate shrinks!...tricare...anyone?

Recommended Posts

okay,

so im freaking out.

i finally got up the nerve to talk to my PCM about the lap band and then was told to get all this testing and come back when i was done.(basically a brush off)

that was a month ago.

since then i've went to the shrink twice, took a two hour evaluation...no i do not hear voices, by the way!.... met with a nutritionist...and reschulded my appt with my PCM again.only problem.... THE STUPID SHRINK RAINED ON MY PARADE!!!

after telling me that whe would approve the surgery, she basically said that she was going to request a extended supervissed diet!

WTF?!?!? has anyone on here ever had their nutritionist approve them and then have the shrink ask for a diet plan?

it wouldnt be so bad except for the fact that i have tricare, and i weigh 250 pounds with a bmi of 38.5.

even if i go on a supervised diet, i cant lose any weight. my bmi needs to be a 40 with 2 comorbids. as of now i only have arthritiis. ( i also have a hip diease that will eventually result in a total hip replacement , but my PCM told me that dosent count)

i dont know what to do now. my appt is on tuesday and im so afaird hes not going to put in the consult to the surgeon. ordinarily i wouldnt mind going on a diet.and i would love to do a pre op diet if i was approved. but what am i supposed to do when i cant lose any weight yet, and my husband is going to be deployed in august for 6 months? i need this done before he leaves.(6 month old baby at home)

I HATE SHRINKS!!!!:w00t:

not to mention ive made myself sick packing on an extra 5 pounds to raise my bmi!!!just thinking about tuesday makes me sick to my stomach!!!

The shrink may have seen something in you that raised a red flag as far as your ability to work the band program as it should be followed.

The Band does NOT work for everyone. You need to be certain type of person to be able to make it work. It's easy to cheat the band.

Don't see the Shrink as roadblock to what you want.....see them as partner in your ultimate success....listen to what they have to say. They are part of the approval chain for a REASON.

if that was the case then i would be glad to prove her wrong, but its not. she's already approved the surgery she just dosent understand the requiremnets for it. im her first ever lap band patient and she just dosent know what to do with me. she even told me she wasnt sure what i should expect afterwards because she dosent know.

i wnat to see another shrink so i can get a better understanding of the after effects. ive read every single thread on here about what to expect afterwards, but i would love to talk to a doc about it, you know?

im just upset at the fact that she dosent know anything about it, yet shes willing to waste my time. plus, my nutritionist looked at my food journal ive been keeping for the past year and he recommended it too.i have a problem with portions not commitment! trust me, this is what i want and i know it will work because im not going to let it fail!!!

If I were you, chantel, I would seek a second opinion, too. How silly to have a dr that doesn't know/understand the situation?

Best of luck to you!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
