Big decision - Lapband or Gastric Sleeve?? Advise?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I am new to the forum, I am trying to do as much research as I can between Lapband and Gastric Sleeve. I will have to pay for the procedure on my own... I will be getting it done in Cancun, Mexico as it is so much less expensive there.

I am a 43 yr old female. 6ft tall. 227 lbs. I would like to lose 80 - 90 lbs. I have lost and gained weight so many times in my life, it has been a constant battle and I am tired of it. I am always hungry and get a headache and weak when I don't eat on time. I am a binge eater, and a picky eater... I have a huge amount of will power for a certain amount of time, however, I always gain it back very quickly... I need to take a certain medication for the rest of my life in pill form (one of my concerns with these procedures)

Now, I am trying to decide if I want to get the Lapband Surgery or the Gastric Sleeve, I can see the pros and cons in both. I would love to hear from people that have had either one of them, and based on the above information, which way they would suggest I go.

I cannot express how much I have been enjoying reading the blog, it has been invaluable in preparing me and guiding me. Thanks so much everyone, I look forward to hearing any and all of your thoughts. Please do not hold back, say how you feel, no matter what ok. I can handle it...

Thanks again, Banded in Belize...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
