I had my band surgery 5/22 and have been on the lovely liquid only diet. About 45 minutes ago without thinking, i swallowed my gum. I feel fine, but should i worry?

Thanks!

No problem. I panicked too and I of course felt like an idiot as well.

My uneducated guess would be if it doesn't get stuck and goes into your lower stomach, it would be the same as before your surgey, I'm sure you swallowed gum as a kid.

Sounds like we have all been there. I have chewed gum for years, never swallowing it, so I was sure I would be fine after the band. Guess who accidentally swallowed her gum post-op? GUILTY! I waited to see if it got stuck, and when it didn't I went on my merry way. I think I did it a second time too, recently. Unless it gets stuck in the opening you are fine. I think the danger is if it gets stuck. Welcome to the gum-chewing club!

We were told not to chew gum for a while after surgery because of things like this. I'm sure it's rare for it to get stuck, but better safe than sorry I guess. I'm sure you'll be fine!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
