Can anyone recommend some good books to read on lapband surgery and/or good recipes for the mushy stage and after?

Honestly there arent any good books I've found yet - For the mushy stage though I'd suggest some Pasta sauce blended up and then put it over some cottage cheese and warm up - Add some parmesan as well if you want.

I was also told whatever the family have just to have that as well but blend it up and thin it out - saves you heaps because you're not buying other stuff. Be careful about rice and Pasta at that stage though as it could possibly still swell in the pouch. You can also try the recipe forum part on here as well =)

I bought 2 of these books. One for me and one for a friend who had lap band surgery. I am waiting for a surgery date right now.

I highly recommend Fighting Weight by Khaliah Ali (Mohammed Ali's daughter). She had lap band surgery several years ago. The book goes into all the practical nuts and bolts pre and post op information as well as her own personal journey with weight issues.

I read this book too and thought it was great. Worth reading cause it's something that pertains to something your going through. Inspiring reading others doing it and succeeding, just like here on the board.

I really loved this book -- Amazon.com: Weight Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band: Everything You Need to Know Before and After Surgery to Lose Weight Successfully: Robert Sewell M.D., Linda Rohrbough: Books

It really told me so much about what to expect, the things I might experience, and I liked the set-up. They have short sections written by people with different perspectives -- doctors, other bandsters, psychologists, etc. I thought it was a great read, and it was my favorite of the 3 books I bought.

I also read Fighting Weight, since my post-op doctor (I had surgery in Mexico) co-wrote it. Honestly, I liked the parts written by the doctors, but I really didn't relate to Khalia Ali very much, and I didn't find her part of the book to be that interesting.

I hope that helps! Definitely get this book -- it's great. :)

I read 2 books on WLS, one was Fighting Weight which I didn't really like, if I wanted to read an auto-biography on Ali I would have bought one! Rhe other was actuallu on a woman who had gastric bypass, but it related to lots of WLS facts. I thought it was excellent! It was called BEFORE & AFTER by Susan Maria Leach. I highly recommend it! Thanks for the book suggestions, I'm going to order right now :-)

I found a book called recipes for Life After Weight Loss Surgery by Margaret Furtado and Lynette Schultz.

One thing that I liked was the mashed califlower. I actually did a vlog about it on youtube. the book also has a lot of other good recipes and it tells you how many weeks post op you should be before trying each recipe. You can find the book on Amazon.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
