Recommended Posts

Okay the day has finally come....I will be getting my band tomorrow....I have to be at the hospital at 5:30 AM but my actual surgery doesn't take place until 7:30 AM so I hope I get out of there by noon. God bless all of those who have their surgery this week and throughout the year.... talk to you all on the post-op side... :(

My surgery is the 18th and I have to go back to work on the 25th. I am a professor at UTA so it is not a physically demanding job, but I do have a 10 minutes walk from the parking lot and three flights of stairs to climb. Also, my classes are 3 hours long, which means I have to stand the entire time and can't really sip on anything like they said to do during the post-op liquid stage. I am really nervous about to being ready for it all in one week; however, I am so sick of starving to death on the pre-op diet. I can only have 5 8-oz Optifast shakes per day. I am on the 7th day of 14 days and want nothing more than to raid the fridge and eat the left over pork chops I made for my family for dinner.< /p>

9 hours to go. It has been the longest 2 week wait of my life..... and now its here it doesnt seem real.

I am calm.

The knowledge that I couldnt follow any of the pre-op instructions correctly haunted me all week, but not today. I must know it is too late for that.

I ate, I smoked, right up until yesterday lunchtime (24 hours before op), but still dropped from 106.8kg to 99.9 kg ( 235 1b to 220 lb). Am now on full fast after taking picoprep last night ( bowel prep - YUK).

I want, I need, this to work.

Good luck to all being done today, to those already done, and to those in the future who need it to.

"Just do it"

My Date is August 25th. My doctor didn't give me a preop diet. What is your Pre-op Diet?

I'm just doing the post-op diet to see if I can do it!

Also setting up my kitchen with food scale, small bowl and plate, measuring spoon and cup to eat the correct portions.

The hardest things so far are giving up my Advil(i have Gout) and not drinking while eating.

:huh2:Thanks MaggieGT

Hey August Bandmates!

My date is August 25th, at 1PM, in Detroit Michigan. I will be at Harper Hospital, and Dr. Laker is my surgeon.

I am currently on my pre-op diet. 2 Protein shakesand then a "sensible" meal for dinner. If I knew what sensible was, I probably wouldn't need the band! lol

Oh well, I wanted to say hi!

My surgery is scheduled for August 25th but a visit with my doctor yesterday to go over my lab results showed I am anemic so my surgery may have to be delayed. I am so bummed. I have been taking Iron supplements for a few weeks now so hopefully a re-test will clear me. I don't see how someone who usually eats as much as I have can be deficient in anything-----except self control!!!

Hi All:

I am home recovering from my surgery - it was SO easy!! I am not in any pain, just a little sore. I haven't needed any pain meds and haven't had any neausea! I am SO SO SO HAPPY that this is done and I can start losing weight - I have so many nice clothes in my closet that are calling my name :) Hope everyone else did well today too. Congrats on the 10 pounds down Jvinciguerra1!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
