Wierd situation with my eyes

Recommended Posts

Last night I ate a 3 ounces hamburger patty that didn't agree with me. Almost immediately i threw it back up! There was even a little blood in with it. I called my bariatric nurse and she said to not be alarmed and take pepcid ac for 2 weeks and go liquid for 24 hours. About 2 - 3 hours later my eyes looked wierd. They had these red splotches all around them like an allergic reaction. I have never had a reaction to anything. I had not even taken the pepcid yet. My sister is a nurse and she gave me some benedryl and eye drops. I took 2 benedryl last night. This morning it is worse. Same puffy red spotchy around eyes. Now my eyeballs have red blood pools at the bottoms. Has anyone ever had this happen after throwing up??

Most likely you ruptured vessels in your eyes from the strain of throwing up. I would however, give your doctor another call, or have your eye doctor check them out. The tissue puffiness AROUND the eye could be something as simple as allergies. But you won't know unless you see your provider.

I had burst blood vessels in my eye when i woke up from surgery. It is scary looking but not dangerous and it goes away in several weeks.

That sounds like spontaneous hemorraghing relating to throwing up. I had that once about 30 years ago when I threw up during a kidney xray test when the dye made me vomit on the xray table. Looks like crap but goes away on its own. Sorry you were that sick!

Wanted to give an update to my eye situation. I went to my eye doctor and my regular physician. I have ruptured blood vessels in my eyes - not serious though. My regular dr. says it is actually not uncommon for throwing up. I will take 7 - 10 days to heal so for now I look really wierd. But the good thing is that it will heal and no problems!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
