After 7 months of the "insurance diet", 2 months of wrangling with both Cigna and my doctor's office, and 7 long years of waiting, I FINALLY HAVE A SURGERY DATE!! I am scheduled for June 12, and while I'm beyond excited, I also feel nervous and somewhat numb. I start my pre-op liquid diet on June 1st, and I have no idea what to expect. Any ideas or thoughts?

I was nervous too but it really isn't bad. Just make sure you follow the preop diet and make sure that you have enough broth, liquids, etc., available post the surgery.

Also have gas x and tums available. The gass was the worse for me.

Every doctor's diet seems to be a little different so just follow what he/she suggests. Good luck!

Thanks a lot! I start my pre-op diet Monday, but this all feels so surreal. It's like I'm excited but ambivalent at the same time. I will keep updating as the days get closer--I appreciate the encouraging words!

Hey Jenna,

I'd love to chat as well. I try to check the boards at least once a day, so feel free to send me a message. Look forward to chatting with you...

Tiffany

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
