1 week post op? hernia and puree??

Recommended Posts

I was banded on May 19th (6 days ago) my incisions feel fine, my mobility is great and I am going back to work tomorrow. My issue is that I am soo freaking hungry. Just the thought of having any more broth, popsicles, or Protein Shakes makes my stomach turn. Because I cannot stand the idea of Fluid, I have not been having enough Protein. I am cranky because I am hungry and wanted to just jump my husband for his mashed potatoes.

Was anyone able to eat something as simple as mashed potatoes or scrambled eggs 1 week post op? I am not looking to eat anything too crazy, but I just do not know if I can wait another week to start the puree phase of the diet.

Also, did anyone have a hernia repaired durning their surgery? I did, and my chest hurts, it feels muscular, and my chest burns abit above the band. I thankfully have not had complications or vomiting and I do not think the band slipped, but I was wondering if anyone else had that issue?

I had surgery on the 14th of May. On May 22nd Dr said I could have mashed potatoes, soft vegetables, eggs, fish, cottage cheese. (no skins). I also had a hernia repair--no problem with that. I have also had no problems adding the extra food.< /p>

Yeah - me too. But I would like to know more about the whole "jumping your hubby for his mashed potatoes..." Is this some kind of code?? LOL

Good luck.

I also had a hernia removed during surgery. The pain your feeling is because during any surgery, they fill your body with a gas to help the intestines float so they can get around them eaiser. It will pass but it really can hurt.

I had a hiatal hernia also repaired during my surgery.

Every doctor is different with their post-op diet. My doctor only had 6 days of liquids post-op, followed by 4 days of mushies, and then on to regular foods (chewed well).

My insicions were very sore, but in the last couple days, I don't feel any pain unless I press where my port is (mine is sort of sticking out). I can lay on my stomach and everything now.

I was also banded on May 19th and had a hernia repaired.

I don't feel hungry, most of the time. I have been eating alot of Tomato Soup, cream of chicken soup(strained)and sugar free pudding with fat free whipped cream. Also, on my list of full liquids was the liquid yogurt, as long as there were no chunks of fruit. To get Protein, I have a Protein Shake for Breakfast and usually, lunch.< /p>

I'm still sore, I think I bent over, one to many times this weekend, so that's probably why. I can't tell if that's the hernia repair or the band.

I had my surgery on the 20th, and also had a hernia repair.

I have had some pain too, but it is starting to subside.

I am sticking to the full liquid diet to let everything heal properly. Each Dr. is different in what they advise, but your Dr. knows what is best for you.

Keep up the good work, and try to vary your diet.

Cream Soups are great for that.

I had surgery on May 15th and I called my nutritionist and told her I was starving!! She called me on Saturday May 23rd and ok'd me to eat yogurt and eggs and cottage cheese. It was the best time for her to call me, too because I was at the grocery store buying more broth, and boy, I did a little dance:willy_nilly: in the aisle and ran to the cottage cheese aisle. So I think you should call your doc and see if its ok.

Hi. I had surgery on the 19th with a hernia repair and some umbilical adhesions. I had the chest and shoulder pain along with some pain at the port, but I'm doing much better now. I am starving. I am not supposed to start soft foods until Thursday but I didn't make it that far. I had some mashed potates and chicken (little bites) and had no problem. I think everyone is different and if you decide to have something ahead of time just be careful. Good luck! Salena

I too had a hernia repair with my band on May 21st. I've been starving since the 22nd. I willl hold out for the mushie stuff until Thurs. but it's really hard. I'm lightheaded, weak and shakey too. Gonna go have something now.

I am now 10 days post-surgery. I also had a hernia repair (it seems to be quite common). My doctor has me still eating mushies for another 5 days and then I can move to scrambled egg type stuff. Today a new strange development started - - - my bowel movements turned bright green! Has this happened to anyone else? Help?

My issue is pain in my left front shoulder. Anyone else? It didn't start until day 6 and is awful. Off and on for two days now. Heating pad helps but geeze.

I've heard that scrambled eggs aren't really considered mushy or pureed foods because there are issues with eggs and their rubberiness. Instant mashed potatoes might be the safest option (pending Dr. approval) because you can make them more runny. I had my surgery on May 22 (a week ago) and I'm not sure I could do mushy foods yet. I guess we're all different!

I have found that a heating pad helps alot. My pain is in the front left shoulder. Is that where yours is? I can hardly lift my arm when it hits me. People have said it is gas but why it waited until now to rear it's nasty head is beyond me.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
