One incision is really itchy!

Recommended Posts

I am 5 days post op doing pretty well. I woke up this morning and my incision on the side of my abdomen was itchy. When i pulled up the bandage back a little it was pink under the tape. Is this normal or should i call the doctor? I usually heal really well and dont think i've had an infection in a cut since childhood so i don't know what i'm looking at. Any thoughts??

I was banded on May 5th and all 5 of my incisions itch like crazy. I went to my post op on Thursday and the doctor said that it is good and it is a sign of healing. Mine also have a lot of redness around them. She said that everything looked great and I was healing really well.

Sounds like you guys are having a reaction to the adhesives on your bandages. It is something you will see mentioned on here from time to time. I had huge red welts where I had bandages. I just used benadryl cream (my docs wife recommended it) on them until the itching went away. I am just over 5 weeks post op and you can still see where I had the reactions, but they dont really itch anymore. So go to the drugstore and get some benadryl cream and it will help the itching go away in just a couple of days.

hi,

i am 5 week out also. i also have one incision that still itches like crazy, (especially at night). I do put benadryl cram on and it helps. doctor also told me that i was healing nice and had a reaction to the tape.

good luck...i think nothing to worry about.

You'll be okay - when you see a head poke out of the hole then I would start to worry - in the meantime, if its a little itchy, do little itchy scratches I guess. I smacked the crap out of myself and found it to stop the itchyness.... I kinda liked it come to think of it.... Hmmmm.....

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
