I think I can feel the band.

Recommended Posts

Help! I am 3 days post-op and I feel pretty good. I am doing everything I am supposed to do. Here is the kicker. Whenever I inhale deeply I get a pain or an uncomfortable feeling near my R shoulder blade and sometimes the center of my chest. It made sleeping on my back uncomfortable for a couple of nights. Is that the band? Will that feeling go away? I'm worried?

Don't worry, it's just gas from the surgery. It will pass. Walk me to help your body release the gas and use a hot pad to ease the pain. You will feel better in time, it's only been 3 days.

I had the same thing and when I mentioned it to my doctor he said it was because of the hernia repair and will subside in a few days. Well, it took closer to the 10 days - but it did eventually go away. At times that pain was worse than the surgery pain!

I used a heating pad and also heard from others that laying as flat as you can will cause the excess gas to disburse throughout your body helping to relieve the pain in your shoulder.

Hope this helps! :wink2:

When they operate, they inflate you with air so the surgeon can see what he is doing. Quite often some of this gets trapped and you get referred pain.

Thanks for the reassurance and support everyone. I didn't have a hernia repair. The doctor did use gas but the gas is gone. I called the doctor on call and he assured me this feeling will resolve.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
