I am three days out of surgery and I am having a terrible time with gas. I can hardly keep anything down. I am afraid I will dehydrate. I feel like everything is coming back up. It there anything I can take or do. I have called the Dr. and they suggested Mylanta. That does almost nothing. I also had a hernia. I don't know if that adds to the discomfort too. Noone told me about this part. I heard you might have some gas after surgery. I was afaid I was having a heart attack the first night. So much pain through shoulders, chest, neck etc. Help please

Try a heating pad. I did not think it would help but after a few bouts of gas I gave in and tried it and it made a very big difference.

I hope you feel better and good luck!!!

I took Gas-X chewables, and they helped a little bit. You can also try closing your eyes and taking deep breaths in through your nose and exhaling through your mouth. Walking around (although it may be hard to do if you're sore) and taking deep breaths definitely helped me out!

Good luck - I know those gas pains are just the worst.

Walking is key. I had horrible gas pains and read walking was good. I thought it sounded crazy because I was so pain that I thought I couldn't do it but I did and it helped. Just take some gas X's first. Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
