Weightloss is so sssssssssslllllllllloooooooowwwww

Recommended Posts

I knew the weightloss would be slow- 1 to 2 lbs a week is the goal. But in reality I keep wishing it was quicker because I still have 75 lbs to go. My focus today to keep me in perspective is to look forward to a year from now with the idea that I will be at goal or very close. Also- I am going to focus on the fact that I won't gain the 25 lbs back that I have lost. My question is for those that have lost 75 lbs or more----------Did you weightloss come off in 1-2 lb increments once you settled in or did you have huge loses and that is what helped you get to goal. Just need to hear that 1-2 lbs a week is going to get me to goal from those who have had huge loses. Thanks!

Im not at 75 or more but im in the 50's and im about 14 months out. I too feel that mine has been extremely slow but I try to remain positive and think, at lease im losing! Prior to surgery I couldnt lose 15 lbs without gaining it back. Im not consistent with my weight loss as far as pounds per week. I will go 3 weeks or so and not lose anything, then lose 6lbs and NOTHING changed in my eating habits or exercising routine. Are you exercising? If not, I would add that in. This way I can say, Im eating right, Im exercising as I should be so its just the way my body loses weight! We have to learn to be happy with what we have lost and not focus on the big picture. That catches me up everytime. Its to overwhelimg for me to see that I had 100lbs to lose. If my weight loss averages out to 1lbs a week in a year, hell I'll take it!! Keep positive and be happy with what you are losing! :wink2:

I think that if our bodies liked to lose weight easily we would not be here. : )

Personally, I am hoping for that 1 to 2 pound a week loss. I don't want to offend anyone, but I don't really want to be a walking advertisement for weight loss surgery. So slow and steady would be great by me. And, while my personal experience has been that people who have these operations DO gain weight back, think of it this way: you are doing this the right way in learning how to eat right. So slow means you WILL have long term success. One year from now you will be a very happy camper!

On the bright side, if you didn't choose to tell the people around you that you had this surgery, they are more likely to think you lost the weight completely on your own when it goes slow. I'm down to less than a pound a week, but still losing.

Right now I'm lucky to loose 2 lbs a month. but still very happy with my band. I just try to remember how long I was heavy and then this waiting game doesn't seem so bad.

I have lost 80 lbs and mine has been 1lb most weeks, some weeks have lost 2-3lbs, stayed the same twice, once at Christmas and once a month or so ago when I needed a fill (had stared snacking between meals as my pouch wasn't staying full for long).

I now have another 20lbs to goal and I expect it will take longer than 20 weeks.

I'm now averaging 1 1/2 pounds a week and can't exercise too much. I'm happy with it because I never have to lose the same pound over again!!!!!!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
