Question for those of you with a BodyBugg or GoWear Fit

Recommended Posts

I have the GoWear Fit and have been trying to find out information on something that has me a bit confused. Maybe somebody here might know the answer.

I have noticed that when I ride my motorcycle, my calories go up. The other night I was riding home from school and it was a solid mass of 7 and 8 calories a minute. Granted, it was chilly, but even today I was on it for a while and my calories are higher during that time.

My husband seems to think the device is reading the vibrating of the bike or something and isn't really indicative of any real caloric expenditure on my part.

Anybody know differently or have an opinion? I'm HOPING it's for real, but I'm not sure how it can be.

I think you are expending effort to hold yourself up and balance the bike. I don't know how much, but more than sitting.

7-8 calories per minute? I think 4 per minute is much more likely. But, you could check your heart rate while riding and that would tell you if you are getting anything out of it or not. No heart rate change, no calorie change.

Not sure if this helps but I asked the BB "trainer" a similar question. Mine was unusually high while driving to and from work. She seemed to think it was the biometrics measuring my body's responses to stress, being more alert etc. I live in the middle of WY (we don't have enough people for traffic, etc) I think it was the vibrations ;o)

The bodybugg says it is about 90% accurate. I have found this to be true. But, I have found it to be almost always 10% hi on its total. I think they make it a little too sensitive because people aren't as likely to become frustrated.

It's funny you mention driving too. I drove to and from my folks' a couple months back (just over 500 miles each way) and when I downloaded my info, I was SHOCKED to see how the entire drive it registered much higher than just simply sitting on a couch.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
