I am from Lewiston, and I will be attending the seminar later today at Portsmouth Regional Hospital. I am an RN who has worked on the surgical unit that had RNY gastric bypass surgery patients - After seeing the many complications that can occur, I have decided to check out the lap banding procedure for myself. I am now an insulin-dependent diabetic, with other co-morbidities, and am serious about losing weight to extend my life and be around to enjoy my husband and my son. Best of luck to all of you.

Warmly, Rachel

Hello All. I also live in the Augusta area. Dr. McKee is working with me. I had my pre-op visit today; and will be scheduled for surgery sometime in August. I started this process back in January (remember the snow storm the night of the seminar at the Senator?) I was there. Maybe you were there too. I'd like to know who you are. Maybe we've even talked at the Support Group meetings.

May I ask you all, who is your doctor? It seems that New Hampshire doesn't have any surgeons that does the Lap Top band. Thanks!

Audrey

Portsmouth has 3 surgeons at Portsmouth Regional Hospital that have an excellent Bariatric Program. I am in the process of getting my "pre-op" stuff done and awaiting approval from insurance company. I live in Lewiston.

YAY for the board getting active!!!!!!

Hi, I'm Connie. I live in South Portland...although we are hoping (please cross your fingers) to sell our condo this summer and build a house further north.

I had my band placed 12-12-07 by Dr. Benavides in Dallas, Texas. I am probably going to be looking to transition my care to someone up here pretty soon. Are any of your dr's taking on patients that were banded elsewhere??

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
