Looking for support in bc

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I found a new fill doctor after being turned away from Dr. Leung (surgeon).

Instead i was referred to Dr. Raman Manchanda, MD to get my lap band filled. He was excellent, a very caring doctor. I have a tilted port and he was able to get it in the first attempt. He is great with needles, and seems to have excellent clinical skills. I felt no pain. Apparently, he has done lots of fills. I recommend Dr. Manchanda highly. Dr. Manchanda charges $100 for fills / defills.

His contact is:

Dr. Manchanda

15160 Fraser Hwy, Surrey, B.C. V3R 3P1

Tel: (604) 580-5541 Fax 604-580-5542

Regards,

Nancy

Has anyone else heard of or been to this Dr.? Please share your experiences if you have...

I mean no disrespect Nancy, but it seems odd to me that your only 3 posts on here are all identical and regarding this Dr.

Where were youbanded and how long ago? Why did Dr. Leung turn you away?

I just spent a few minutes on Google looking for info on Dr. Manchanda and all I could come up with is that he is a family/general practicioner. None of the websites that mention him have anything to do with Lap-bands or fills.

To be fair, I have been told on numerous occasions that realistically any Dr or nurse that is familiar with ports (they are used in many medical treatments, not just banding) could fairly easily do fills/unfills. However, I personally feel that any Dr. accessing my port, except if there was an extreme emergency, needs to have training in bands and the issues that can arise with fills etc. Accessing and filling a port is only part of it for bandsters, the Dr also needs to know all about banding and how to assess fill levels and how we may respond to them.

This is of course just my personal opinion on the matter.

Patricia: This doctor has been used by TLBC (Slimband) from the Toronto Lapband Clinic (now Slimband) for their patients in BC. He does fills for their patients. I know of one lady who goes to him and thinks he is very caring. Payment up front of course. Slimband patients go through the clinic fill nurse in Toronto for appointments. I understand they pay up front too and get reimbursed later if their contract calls for free fills. Also, I was told that this Dr. has been trained by Slimband in fills.

Thanks for clarifying Doreen, this is good info for bandsters. When I looked I couldn't find anything about banding on websites that refered to him....altho maybe the TLBC (Slimband) site mentions him.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
