Ok so, sleeping....

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! Just had surgery yesterday and today is my first day home. I tried to take a nap and was just unbelievably uncomfortable. Just wondering how long this lasted for all of you that have done it? I know it's normal to be sore, just want to get a rough estimate of when I should/will expect to sleep again, lol! Thanks.

Congrats on your surgery!! You are now a Banded Bandito!

Everyone is different with sleeping, but it may help you to sleep on your back for awhile, propped up by pillows. If you try to sleep on your side, put a pillow under your belly to support it. Gravity does evil things to those sore incisions!

Good luck!

Hey Carrie,

sleeping on my side for the first week or so was impossible but it was uncomfortable on my back all night long. I found that sleeping on the couch was better because I could lean against the back of the couch and change my position slight which made it better to sleep. I also found that when I could manage on my side, it helped to hug a pillow close to my belly.

nope do not sleep on your side, be cautious. My doctor thinks that i either popped a stitch or pulled a muscle. i had this horible Burning pain for about 20 minutes, i thought i was going to die. so be very cautious. i have been sleeping on a lounge type chair. and when i move back to bed it will be on my back.

i am 8 days out. so please do be careful.

I slept with three pillows behind me, one flat one slanted on the flat one and one under my head. One pillow under my hips to make my legs in kind of a sitting position and one pillow under my left arm. A little codiene and I slept all night. I started sleeping on my side with pillows on day 5 or 6.

Hope this helps! Congrats on being banded!

I slept in a recliner the first 3 or 4 days after surgery, then moved to the bed with lots of pillows behind my back for another couple days. Then I was able to sleep on my right side but not the left for a couple of days. Definitely needed a pillow to help support me when on my side. I'm a stomach sleeper and was not able to sleep on my stomach until about 2 days ago.

thanks everyone for the responses. I am having lots of problems sleeping still. I slept in a recliner the first night and that was ok, last night tried to sleep laying on my back and that was fine, but I also have a pinched nerve that makes my thighs burn and tingle if I lay on my back to long. So with that, I'm miserable. I want to sleep on my side so badly, but the port site really hurts if I even try. I guess it'll be the chair again tonight, and maybe the couch tomorrow night. We shall see. Thanks everyone!

Best of luck and hopefully you'll be able to sleep on your side soon.

I went shopping prior to surgery and got one of the big U (or V) shaped pillows. It's really made it much easier to sit up in bed and I can scootch down a little and still get to sleep. When I'm ready to sleep on my side, I can use it for support as well.

Just a thought!

Still sleeping off and on in the recliner. I went through one day, about day 4, that I was so uncomfortable. Seems like my abdomen was just a big hugh hard ballon that I could not sit or lay comfortably with. I took gas x strips and pain med but took a long time to be comfortable enough to sleep. Standing up sleepimg was not an option. Seems like a long time ago, now that I am on day 8 and having much less pain. Good luck.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
