so bummed...

Recommended Posts

well, i just got back from my pre-op appointment, and the gallbladder's definitely got to come out, and he can't say for sure if he'll be able to do the band at the same time or not.

it all depends on if the gb is infected, and if any "infection" leaks out when they remove it. :smile2:

i'm so bummed... i've been really good on my pre-op diet, and i actually lost 15.5 pounds, and now, if he can't do the band with the gb, i'll have to wait another couple of weeks until i can go back for the band.

and i'm soooo scared of being put to sleep. that's the hardest part of all of this. i don't want two surgeries!

i'm trying to stay positive, and hope that it'll all work out, that he'll be able to do both at the same time, but it's gonna really suck if i have to be a juno bandito... (nothing personal to everyone getting banded in june, of course)

*sigh* at least he didn't say absolutely no, right?

I'm sorry, Juniper. I had my gallbladder removed 8 1/2 years ago, and it is a simple surgery. My gb was REALLY in bad shape and I could barely function, but when they went in for surgery, there was no infection. I hope that encourages you that yours probably won't have infection.

Also, try not to worry too much about being put to sleep. That's the easy and "fun" part. I've had 6 major surgeries in the past 8 years, and I can tell you, it is so relaxing when they give you the drugs to sleep. First they will give you something in your IV to relax you. This alone may make you fall asleep. (It did for me this last time.) If you don't fall asleep from this, you will at least feel very drowsy and happy. Then they will put an oxygen mask on you that also pumps some gas that knocks you out. You won't feel a thing. It's very, very quick, and the next thing you know, you'll be waking up in the recovery room going, "It's over already??!" I say that every time. LOL

I wish you the best of luck! And if you do have to be a Juno Bandito, you can still be an Honorary mayo Bandito! :smile2: Keep us updated!

Thanks so much, Ann.

That does make me feel a lot better!

I'm not running fever or anything, so I'm hoping it's just not working, and not infected. Crazy thing to be wishing for, it seems. I'm just so ready to get banded!!

Oh, believe me, I know the feeling!!! I had a cold and a slight fever the day of my surgery, and I was so afraid they would postpone the operation... but they didn't! They were mostly concerned about my breathing.

If you're not having excruciating pain and fever, my guess is you don't have an infection. Your surgeon just has to tell you that to cover his @ss, probably.

Just think good thoughts... good thoughts... goood thoughts....... :smile2:

Oh Juniper! I am sorry to hear about your GB.

I will cross my fingers for you that you do get your band at the same time.

Don't be scared of being put to sleep! Hopefully you will have the same anesthesiologist that I had; she was wonderful. I have terrible veins and so she did the IV herself using a little pediactric needle and said "don't worry, I'll put in another one while you're asleep but I don't want to hurt you"... Once we got to the OR I remember her saying "I just gave you something to make you relax" and I said "sweet!!!" and that is the very last thing I remember. Sure enough, I had another larger IV in the other hand when I woke up. She seriously rocked.

Keep us updated and good luck!

Oh, I hope so, Amy!

Dr. Hagood was very reassuring about being put to sleep. He seems so secure, and that makes me feel a lot better.

But I'm following Ann's advice and thinking good thoughts... good thoughts...

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
