keeping food hot for the whole meal

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 04/20/2009. I am eating soft foods. One of the things I find disappointing now, is my food is getting cold before I finish eating. Since I am eating less than a cup of food at a meal and I am taking 30-45 minutes to eat it, I am finding my meal always gets cold before I finish and does not taste as good as it did when it was hot.

Sometimes I heat the plate, this helps a little. Does this bother anyone else? How do you keep your meals warm until your finished.

Ed.

I have the same problem. I'm constantly sticking my plate in the microwave.

I use a Sassy Baby Warming Dish. You put warm Water inside the dish and it keeps the food warm for quite a long time. you can use it divided to separate food or take the divider out for a warm bowl.

My food gets cold before I'm finished eating too...sometimes I take this as my clue to stop eating when the food gets cold. I don't always do that...but I think I'm going to start...otherwise, I'll be eating the same amount of food as before my surgery, only taking a longer time to eat it. I've heard that we should only take 15 minutes to eat. If you stop eating after 15 minutes, you won't overeat.

My doctor has suggested that take 30 minutes to eat my meal. I am supposed to split my food in half. Eating the first half over 15 minutes, if I finish early, wait and then eat the last half over the remaining 15 minutes. This is to help me get used to eating my my slowly...

This is a pet peve of mine as well. I am resolute in the fact that my wife has had to eat cold meals for the past ten years because of our kids. It is the price I pay for not having good eating habits in the past.

My doc and nutritionist want us to eat our meals in no more than 20 min - with 15 min being optimum. Theory being that the food is all in the pouch and gives you that "full" feeling you are looking for.

I guess if your food is cold, you could zap it in the microwave, just to warm it up a bit. I liked the baby food warming dish idea - clever!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
