pre-op diet question (whaaa?)

Recommended Posts

I have a peo-op diet of liquids, and Protein Drinks for meals.

One bandster I know said I need a certain ammount of protein/carbs/sugars in the Protein Drink.< /span>

I had just purchased the EAS 20 protein/20 carb/ 17 sugar cuz' it's sweetened w/ fructose (immitation sweetners can make me ill).

Anyone want to throw in thier "two cents" or three?

I used the EAS 17g Protein Shakes for 10 days because of the less calories and they worked great. I was able to have 4 a day and a small meal and be under 800 calories a day easily. It knocked off 12 pounds pretty easily.

My doc had a specific shake for us to use and if we didn't want that he gave us specific guidelines as to how much of each NI item.

If your doc didn't specify or give you guidelines then I would assume that it doesn't matter for you. If he did, then does the shake you got fill the bill? If so, you're good. If no, you're not.

Okay, sounds good...especially the 10 cals per Protein gram...helpful! Are we, as pre or post banded, supposed to get a certain ammount of protein per day? Too much counting, as in Weight Watchers, would make me loooose my mind but grams of protein....easy! Just checked my pre-op and it isn't mentioned but do "you" think it's important... also, I can't find a daily calorie intake anywhere on my post-op. Did anyone else experience this?:smile2:

Thanks again

Before I was banded I had to have an appointment with a nutritionist. She told me how many grams of protein I should have per day. As for calories, I eat anything I want and/or can tolerate in moderation. I eat a healthy diet of lean protein, whole grains, veggies and fruit with an occassional treat. I don't worry about the calories. I refuse to "diet" and I am certainly done with counting calories, points, etc. Everyone is different and everyone has their own opinion about calories and such. This is just mine. I would just suggest you follow your doc's recommendations.

As for the Protein drinks. I too use EAS, but I use the soy. I mix them with soy milk as well. This is just my preference. Today I made a vanilla shake and threw in a few chunks of mango. Soooo goood!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
