ran first nonstop 5k yesterday

Recommended Posts

Ok, it's time to pat myself on the back. Six months ago, I was able to jog 30 seconds non-stop, yesterday I was able to complete a nonstop 5k in about 30 minutes.

I know a lot of people run further, but this was a big goal of mine and I have achieved it! It's SO awesome to be at the gym running 30 minutes straight with a skinny preppy chick on the tredamill next to me panting and wheezing because she is thinking to herself, "If the fat(ish) girl can do it, why can't I?"

I AM THE WINNER! YAY

You're the winner allrigth!

5K is a huge achievement! Once you can do that, you really CAN do any distance. However, I find, I do the longer distances for races but for my general fitness schedule, day to day stuff, fit it in between getting home from work and dinner or getting up in the mornign to run, 5 or 6 K is absolutely fine, enough to keep you fit and thin. Great work!

For me, that was a much bigger thrill than getting into any size or pair of jeans.

That's a fantastic time. I can't run a 5k that fast!

What was so weird was 2 weeks ago I was at 2.5 miles non-stop, 4 days ago I suddenly couldn't run even a 1.5 miles without stopping- then all of the sudden 2 days later, I way past 2.5 miles, all the way to 5 k non-stop. I have no idea why that happened, but I'm ok with it now.

I am working on getting my time down to this. I did my first 5 K on Saturday but in about 45 minutes. I am trying to get to running 5 miles straight in 3 weeks because that is when I start marathon training. I am planning to run it is December 09 and be very close to my goal weight by that time.

I made this decision over the past few weeks. I can give you lots of reasons but the bottom line is I decided that if I am going to make this weight loss a permanent change in my life then I need to really change who I am and the old me would never have even considered running a marathon.

I really had fun with it Saturday. I live in a rural area and run through cotton fields essentially. The farmers thought I was crazy running in the rain.

Congrats! That's an awesome achievement (and awesome time to boot!) :) I am working on my first 5k (later this summer) and I'm looking forward to the day (soon?) that I can do the whole thing without walking. Thanks for the inspiration

A well deserved pat on the back. I'm upping the ante and doing a 10k this weekend. My only goal is to finish. (I'm guessing 60-70 minutes) IMO its easier to do out on the road than on a treadmill.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
