a little disappointed first fill only 3 cc's

Recommended Posts

Ok I had lap band March 14th 2009. I went back for my first fill a week ago and the Doc. only gave me 3 cc's.

I didn't feel much restriction and when I called the office the next day they said sometimes it takes a couple of days to feel it. Well I STILL DONT feel it!

And they said the soonest I could get another one would be abnother 4 weeks:mad2:!Waaaaah!!

I really was hoping to drop some weight before summer starts but at this rate it is going to be a much longer process than i first thought. I know everyone is different but what is the normal cc amount for a first fill? Am I some kind of freak???? Please help!! Thanks!!:)

I got 1.5 cc's in my 14 cc band. Doc's choice. He's conservative. and it took me until the 5th fill to feel it.

You got 3 cc?? I've had six fills and am only up to 4.6 cc. Don't complain!

Besides, fills done too aggressively can cause major problems. If you want to lose the weight sooner, work hard right now to limit what you eat. Don't rely so solely on the band that you don't train yourself what to do.

My first fill was 3.25 cc's in a 4cc band.

I agree with the whole "work harder" thing, but I understand your frustration. You went through this surgery so "working harder" wouldn't be SOOOOO HARDD!!! LOL.

Good luck getting another fill - you might wanna go ahead and schedule it if he fills up quick.

I'm in the same boat as most of you. My 1st fill was only 2ccs and my 2nd fill was only 1cc. I still don't have much restriction, especially at night. I work 3rd shift at at a job that's sedentary . So it's really hard not to eat at night out of sheer boredom. My surgeons great but will only do a fill every 4 weeks, so my next fills not until June 1st. I'm hoping that one will get me to my sweet spot. Good luck everyone. By looks of everyone stats it looks like we aren't doing too bad at all considering we don't have full restriction .

It's going to take some time to adjust that's why they start out slow. Let your body adjust to your 3cc's and in the meantime really watch what you eat and make sure you work out good. You will still drop off some weight before summer.

Funny, because I am just the opposite. I had surgery on April 14th. My surgeon puts 4CC's in at surgery. Well 2 days after surgery I wasn't able to drink Water so I had 1 1/2 CC's removed. At 4 weeks I went in for my post -op thinking I would have a fill. The surgeon and NUT didn't recommend I have one because I had lost 6 lbs since surgery was eating the correct amount and wasn't getting hungry or snacking between meals. So I only have 2 1/2 CC's and do feel restriction. They did say when the swelling went down completely I would probably need a fill and if I started getting hungry between meals to call them and they would see me right away to put a fill in. I go back on June 19 if not before.

I was a little disappointed because I wanted to lose faster but they convinced me that the band was working just like it is supposed to and to increase my excerise and the weight would come off. Not fast but steady.....

My doc puts in 3 cc at the first fill too. It took my hunger away immediately, but it took until about 3 weeks after my fill for it to "take hold" more - I can eat less now and I occasionally get that sensation that I need to stop - which is what I have been looking for. Just continue with your portion sizes, etc.

I can defiantly feel the difference with the 3cc with the fullness or it might be restriction I am unsure at this point just cause this is my first fill. But I am happy with the the feeling and also my doctor told me I could go back in 4weeks if needed.

My doctor is very conservative too. Because i read so much before i got the band on how it takes people a while to get to there sweet spot i asked how he does fills. He told me it isn't a race he wants to do it the healthy way and filling two much to soon and cause so many proplems ( he has done hundreds of bands) This is how he fills

4 weeks preop 1cc

2months .5cc if needed

3months .5 cc if needed

4months .5 cc if needed

5 months on as needed

He also said how he determines if you need a feel is how long you can go before hungry again no how much you can fit in you band because everyone is different some can fit 1/4 cup some and fit 3/4 cup.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
