Howdy, all ~

My steri-strips have yet to fall off, but it appears that everything is healing just fine. I'm having fewer and fewer sharp 'port pains,' which is quite a relief. Those really hurt!

I'm on pureed foods 'til Monday, when I upgrade to 'soft foods.' (I'm still not totally clear on the difference -- heh heh.) I don't feel any 'fullness cues' at the base of my throat, but I don't have much of an appetite AT ALL. I'm experiencing physical hunger for the first time in, oh gosh, maybe 20 years? Earlier today, I thought I had a stomach ache and was about to hit the gas-x. I decided to eat some pureed Soup (progresso light - zesty chicken gumbo - YUM)... and it turns out that the feeling I had in my tummy was HUNGER. It was pretty hilarious.

I'm eating about 1/2 C at each meal, and have been interested in no more than 3 meals per day. I'm tracking everything on The Daily Plate, and it's quite obvious that I'm eating way too much in fat calories, in the form of chicken salad and the like. I know that once my options open up a bit, I'll be able to stay within the limits my dietician recommends. I'm down 9# since surgery (plus 20# from the pre-op diet.) I know that the band is designed to support 1-2# loss per week, which is truly what I want... but I must say that I'm enjoying this initial 'whoosh' while it lasts.

Oh, also - not walking or exercising like I should. That must change.

I had an early morning appointment with my surgeon today. He advanced me to "Phase 3" foods which means I can have meat now...yeah!!`

For dinner I made chicken fajitas and black Beans for my family. I shredded the chicken onions and peppers and mashed up the black Beans for myself. It was the best tasting thing EVER!

I also met my Protein goals for the first time today with the addition of "real food" to my diet. I am done struggling with the Protein shakes. They are not working for me...I will just have to be extra diligent to get my Protein in the form of solid foods and skim milk!:grouphug:

My first fill is scheduled for July 1.

My weight loss has slowed down since I have started purees. I lost 2 lbs. in the last week which is what I expect to lose with the band. My glue and steri strips are still in place but the wounds are healing well. I do get a pain in my stomach when I am eating sometimes. The Bariatric Coordinator at the hospital said it is caused by eating too fast. My goal for the next few days is to eat slower. I will never make it with solid foods if I can't SLOW DOWN!!! I hope everyone else is doing well.

My weight has also slowed down coming into the 3rd week of life with the band. I am also on pureed foods and moving to real food next week. Since starting pureed foods I can tell that I am getting hungrier and are able to eat more. My surgeon told me to expect to be able to eat more and more until I get my first fill on July 1. I plan to start going to the gym next week and I hope that will help me to start loosing again.

I with you guys. Started puree, haven't lost in a week which is a real bummer. It is hard not to see loss when you are working so hard. But I guess it will come. I feel more hungry now that I am on mushie food. I had tuna for lunch. Those little lunch kits are great (except for the crackers) they are only 3 oz and come with everything already mushie. I have 3 weeks left of mushies.

I have been on purees/mushies since about 4 days post op and I'm so done with them! lol...But I'm still loosing on them. Down 4 pounds this week. Still having 2 protien shakes a day and 3 meals of 1/4-1/2 cup a food a day. Sometimes I only get 2 meals in. And i have to force those...I'm just NOT hungry anymore.

Hi all,

Today officially makes 3 weeks with the band. I am writing to see if anyone else is experiencing the same things as me. My surgeon told me to start "real food" this week. He advised me to do it slowly and add one new food at a time and see how I tolerate it. So far I have not had problems swallowing or digesting anything since the surgery. I feel good.

Last night my husband made some nice lean steaks on the grill and baked potatoes. I ate about 4oz of steak and half the potato. I am finding that I am able to eat more and more without that full feeling coming on so quickly. I am still not eating the amount of food I was pre-band but I can tell that I would easily be able to get back to that point without a fill soon.

My weight has been teetering between 215 and 212 for about a week and a half now and that is very discouraging.

I'm visiting all of the gyms in town today and deciding on which one will be the best fit for me. I know I will look for any reason not to go so I want to pick one that is the most convenient and enjoyable! Good luck to everyone.

I'm having a hard time not drinking while I'm eating. I don't drink much but I need a few sips to get my food down. Drinking 30 min before and 30 min after is very difficult.

Is anyone else having that problem?

I am in my second week of purees. Sunday I start soft foods. Weekly I attend a class conducted by the Bariatric Coordinator at the hospital I had my surgery and weigh at that time. I lost 2 lbs last week and probably will lose the same this week. I am exercising 5-6 days a week doing aeorbic treadmill, elliptical or bike for 45 min. I am steadily increasing the resistence on these machines to maximize the effect.

Things are going pretty well. I eat 1/2-2/3 c. of food at a meal. I too slip by finding myself drinking while I am eating or having to tell my self to slow down while I am eating. I seem to just go on auto pilot when I eat and am unconcious as to what I am doing. I have to tell myself "wake up and pay attention" It is really funny!!

I have found that if I put my Water glass far away from me -- out of sight practically -- it helps me get through the meal without being tempted. Also, the smaller the bite, and the more you chew it up, the easier it is to not drink and eat. And, I always try to finish with something wet, such as fruit or yogurt. Makes a big difference! One woman in my support group said she brushes her teeth immediately after a meal. They also sell moisturizing mouthwash (which I use at night to avoid dry mouth) and that could be a good thing to help after a meal.

Good luck!

OK May 26-er's

It seems as though I have hit a wall completely. I have only lost a pound since June 16th or so. Im frustrated, I don't get a fill until July 23rd because my doctors on a month long vacation. I have a great appetite and I'm constantly hungry. I don't pass more than 1100 calories a day and I walk 30-40 min daily. WTH is going on. Sorry for the vent ladies/gents i guess my frustration point is peaking.

When did you all have your fills or plan on having them, everyone I spoke to seems to have either gotten or is getting their fill within the next week or so.

thanks for reading

I'm there with you! I am at a stand still with my weight loss and needing a fill badly. I am not eating as much as I was pre-surgery but I am definitely eating more than just a cup of food at a time. The doctor told me to expect this.

I have joined the gym and are hoping this will help me hold on until I finallly get my first fill on July 1.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
