Obesity and Anxiety

Recommended Posts

Ok Guys, any one experience serious mood changes when losing the weight. I was banded in aug 07 and I have only lost about 40 lbs. MY Fault, I OWN IT. I am getting back into the swing by exercising and eating right now. On the rightous path again.

I have suffered from pretty severe anxieties for a while now. Almost to the level I should seek professional help. I notice now that I am tracking my food intake with fitday and started P90x, albeit modified that my attitued and anxieties are much better. I found some reports on the interenet linking obesity and anxiety disorder, but wanted to get some first hand experience from you all to see if you have experienced any changes with the weight coming off.

thanks

I went thru a couple of big changes during my WL - I left a job I had been at for years, which took up an insane about of my life and I had broken up with my long time love - food. My mood swings were off the charts - I should be happy because I am losing, but I missed my old job (dont ask me why), I had all this free time on my hands for the first time in years and all I wanted was a hero sandwich.

All kidding aside there was about a 3 month period were the depression was unbelievable. I gave thought to getting some help but thankfully snapped out of it on my own. I think anyway.... there are some days were I still wonder if a few sessions on a couch wouldn't be helpful. Damn society for making men think needing help is a flaw!

I have not had any anxiety or panic issues, but I have been more aggressive and more prone to serious anger. So much so, that my wife has said something about it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
