My surgery date is May 28 and besides questioning myself every day about doing this and slightly freaking out about the surgery as I have never gone under the knife before, the one nagging question I have is: Can you become uncomfortably hungry after the surgery and before the first banding, and if so, are you able to satisfy the hunger with just liquids?

Everyone is different. I was HUNGRY. I just toughed it out. I knew if I cheated I could cause a slip and that is a mighty motivator to not advance my diet faster than the doc said I could. Some lucky people aren't hungry for a time, probably because their stomachs are unhappy after the surgery. Not me. No, my Iron stomach was right as rain and I woke up in recovery HUNGRY.

It is only for a short while, though. I spent a lifetime being hungry on diets and that was like one intense period and now I'm rarely hungry. When I am, I eat a little and it passes. I think of it as a kind of "trial" I went through for freedom from hunger.

I wasn't hungry after surgery, it didn't take much to feel comfortable which was a first in my lifetime when i didn't want to eat all the time. However, after surgery you have to be careful, no body ever mentioned to me about the new small pouch stretching and it will, just like your stomach did originally to gain weight, the pouch will stretch. Mine has and now i've gained back all my weight, plus problems with my stomach.

I was not hungry that much I think your stomach sometimes / some people swells so at first I was fine with the liquid diet. About 1 1/2 week on liquids I started getting hungry but I was not doing the Protein Shakes like I was suppose to. So I toughed it out until about 2 1/2 weeks and then started my mushies a few days early. My first fill is on 5-26 and my hunger is not that bad. If I eat the Protein foods I'm usually good.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
