Help-surgery close & eating more than ever

Recommended Posts

I felt the same way as most. I knew that I would be starting pre-op diet on Monday so I went to town over the weekend and went out and drank and ate like it was my last meal. I thought how the hell am I going to do this? It seemed so stupid that I was trying to get in everything I could. I was satisfied Sunday night.

I woke up Monday and started the shakes and I am doing really well.

I didn't do any preparedness classes or see a dieticien. I just decided I was tired of being fat and wanted to feel better and look better so I scheduled my surgery in Mexico and for being impatient it cost me. My insurance would have covered this but I wanted it now. I quit drinking coffee 3 weeks before surgery and did the liver shirking diet and now am on my 5th week post-op. No regrets and I am very motivated. You will be too!

I am in the phase of my pre-surgical life called "get it out of my system" I chose my favorite types of food and have diligently gorged myself on them (sushi gonna be the hardest to give up)... BUT I did put some restrictions on myself to begin gettin into the discipline frame of mind...at the end of April after I had gone to our physicians required weekend seminar, I vowed to give up deep fried foods and sweets (south georgia, hello!) and replaced one meal a day (breakfast) with a Protein Shake to get used to the liquid thing and the feeling of slight hunger pains...dropped 13 pounds just from cutting the crap out...I still feel like I am binging on my favorite things, but truly to the point that I dont think I will care after the surgery because I am usually so miserable afterwards...it works for me I guess :wink2: I think if you can just cut out one thing you truly loved before and discipline yourself slowly it will make it easier...ofcourse, I was never a big soda drinker and gave up caffeine 15 years ago...I was seriously addicted to sugar...candy candy candy! and after the initial headaches have done pretty well...

Debra, I'm 26 days away from having lap band surgery, my nutritionist told me to do the same things that were asked of you.....no more coffee. (not even decaf!) .one month before and three months after surgery..... stop drinking 1/2 before and 1 hour after eating....chewing small bites very slowly.

I took each one of these on one at a time. First I gave up the coffee for a whole week...then I stopped the drinking before and after meals.

Finally, I'm working on chewing slowly. By far the most difficult of these new eating habits is the no drinking before and after meals. It takes time and practice. We also have to start taking the Vitamins a month before so that your body can adjust to all of these changes. I can't imagine taking on all of these changes the day after surgery! This is for your own good believe me.

I am on day 4 of the liquid diet...but I have cheated...the 1st day I had a salad because by about 2pm I was SO HUNGRY....I figured a salad was the least of the "evils"...then day #2 came around and I did the exact same thing...I was thinking at the time "maybe I could just do Protein Shakes and a salad every day..." but I know that is against the "rules" then last night my husband and I had a "date" - he works all the time so I thought to myself - "what's one meal??" then I was doing really well today until I just ate some pizza. If I am "cheating" so much...I must not really want this...but I do want it...but I do not know what is wrong with me...I think I was reacting to that "deprived" feeling I just want to kick myself

I have been going through the pre-diets and the diet pills for almost a year now. I am going to see the surgeon next week and I am also very anxious about the whole thing; however, about a year ago I faced the fact that I have several conditions with my heart and have had a small heart attack and am likely to have a stroke. I also just found out that I have sleep apnea. I am a 32 year old mother of two boys ages 4 & 2. I never considered myself as "that big" but when I was faced with the possibility of not seeing my children grow up and not seeing my grand-children born I changed my mind. I am not able to play with my children. That is what made my decision (My children).

You have to find what it is that has made you decide to do the surgery in the first place. I know that the outcome is definitely worth the surgery. I look forward to being able to play with my children and watching them grow up.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
