denise25 0 Posted May 18, 2009 Hello, I am a little curious, has anyone had gallstones problems only after lapband surgery? Is it normally to have problems after surgery if you never had problems before?
RestlessMonkey 7 Posted May 18, 2009 I think gallbladders issues are generally tied to rapid or large weight loss more than just getting a band. I had mine out in 2003 after I'd just lost 40 pounds on WW...losing weight seems to trigger the problems. That's why often for gastric bypass surgeons just remove the gall bladder while they are "in there", because they know odds are it's coming out anyway. (at least they used to do that)

JayTee562 1 Posted May 18, 2009 Mine was on the fritz before my surgery they found out during the ultrasound that I will need to have it out. I will be doing that one in a couple months some dr's will do it when they do the band mine won't.
incipientesquire 0 Posted June 4, 2009 I've had several attacks and required pain meds but it doesn't need to be removed yet ... I don't remember the surgeon disclosing this as a known issue.
RestlessMonkey 7 Posted June 4, 2009 My doc in his seminar did say that many with rapid weight loss will lose their gall bladders...since I'd already had mine out it was a non-issue for me. It's not the band, it's the weight loss.
