Mushy/Soft foods at 1 or 2 wks post op?

Recommended Posts

I'm one week out, but I"m allowed to start mushy/soft foods on Tuesday -- it seems that many others say they can't for 2 weeks. Anyone else allowed to switch to Soft foods on day 8 after surg? Just wondering. . . My doc gave me all kinds of info and said that's the "plan" but I wonder if I should continue liquids just a bit longer (not that I want to!) but since I paid so much for this surgery-- I want to get the full benefit. Maybe let my band settle in a bit longer. . .

On day 8, if I was "starving", my surgeon allowed a test meal of a soft scrambled egg. If I could eat it without any problems I was told to proceed to soft foods/mushies. I was, and did proceed, and I haven't had any problems and I am now 10 months post op. I was on Clear Liquids for 7 days, full liquids for 1 day and then I proceeded to mushies after that scrambled egg. If your surgeon says it is ok and you are comfortable with it, then do it. If you are scared, then stay on full liquids for a little bit more.

It's up to you. I don't think it would hurt you to delay a little. I know the "official" lap band site says to stay on liquids for 2 weeks, but your doc SHOULD know what he's doing! I think if I were you and I had the fortitude to hold off a little, I would, just to make sure!

I'm 6 days out and I feel like I could easily start mushies as well but personally I would prefer to wait the 2 weeks, your body needs time to heal and I would be worried about starting at 7 days but that's just me - If your worried maybe stay on liquids for 10 days and then try some foods, if your still worried call your doctor, there always interested inyour well being and he'd probably be more informative than anyone on here. Good Luck

My doctor told my sister and I we had to be on liquids for a full 3 weeks. States this will give the stomach time to heal better.

We were banded on Thursday, 5/14/2009, which means we won't be on mushies until 6/4.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
