I think i rather ask this silly question than not know what to do...

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, i am still not a banded, but looking to get banded soon, i've already done my consultation with Dr Chris De Bruyne in Dubai..now just deciding if i should go for it or not( Honestly i am really really scared) and i understand almost everyone prolly went through this nervousness/anxiety and undecided phase before their surgery as well.

Now since m not banded yet m doing all my research i can before hand and looking in for answers i dont have from someone who does.( as i found out everyone here is very very helpfull--my own experience:thumbup:)

I am starting this post so everyone can also post all the questions they think are silly and which they dont have answers too, something u think might be intense to something realli reallli small...coz as i said i rather ask a silly questions then dont know wat to do if m in situation..

So here is my question :

I have heard and read from post that soon after surgery (not sure how long 1-7 days maybe or longer/shorter) u are not realli suppose to bend as it might cause some problems to the stitches or port , so wat do we do in a situation when u have to go to toilet and after clean urself and later pulling up ur underpants since u have to bend?especially the same day or the following day after surgery....m sorri for posting such an embrassing question but i've realli been thinking abt it and i didnt know where else i can get the answers, soo i ask....:rolleyes2:

I'm not banded yet but my daughter is. I don't think the not bending is the norm. She was able to go up and down stairs the day of surgery just slowly. But she had surgery on a Tuesday in Houston, flew back to NYC on Friday and worked (she's a very busy hair colorist) on Saturday, but felt she could have worked on Friday. I'm a court reporter and carry lots of equipment with me and asked doc about lifting 30 pounds in and out of a car and he didn't seem to think there would be any problem. So I don't think I'll be outside lifting bags of mulch or dirt or anything like that..lol

Mine is June 1. My only concern is that I won't have anyone around. My daughter is taking me but she's leaving the same night as she has to catch a plane to go to Houston again the next mornign for plastic surgery (we didn't plan it to be this way but her dates and my date have overlapped).

So my question is: Is there anyone that is also going to be recuperating by themselves? I have someone( dog walker) coming in to just check on dogs the first two days.

Good luck

Trisha

My restrictions were, no lifting over 10lbs for the first few weeks and no sit-up type exercises for the first 6 weeks. After surgery you need to be careful, but no so careful--pulling up my underwear and socks were fine. Just nothing too fast.

Akheya,

No question is a silly question. We just tend do worry and then think of things that scare us all over again and think of other things that can scare us.

Of course you have to bend and do your everyday normal things. It will happen but only with some discomfort.

1. Do not lift anything over 5lbs. I would think not for up to 10 days.

2. When you get up from a sitting position it will feel like you are going to rupture something but in my experience, hold your tummy close to your body while getting up and it will help the pain. When you are feeling your port area in which you will be for quite awhile it is secured around a muscle so it is going to be painful for awhile. Remember you have foreign objects in your sysytem now and you need your body to recoup and heal.

3. You may experience problems when you sleep also. Try to stay away from sleeping on your port side.

Just remember each and every time when you bend and you can be careful and hold in your stomach. Everyone has a different threshold of pain and it helped just for me to hold in my stomach. I didn't even lift my 10lb dog for 10 days and I did every healing day with no pain meds. You need to remember to take care of yourself and know that you need time to heal.

If you have an eating disorder, the band is the way to go. Don't think too much negativity because our minds are powerful and you will convince yourself not to do this. You should be okay.

Keep asking the questions.....

Josephine

Trisha,

I walked my dog the day I came back from surgery. She wouldn't budge with my husband. It is funny how they know when you aren't at your best. She kept looking behind and making sure that I was there. I don't have a fenced in back yard so she has to be walked 3 times a day. It was a very slow walk in which I didn't care as long as I was taking care of myself. I didn't lift her as I

usually need to to get her butt moving and stop the sniffing but it actually helps with the gas from the anesthesia.

My husband tried but just didn't do anything like I do so he did his best. I only requested no lifting and I was fine.

TO PENN REPORTER: I had surgery on Thursday 14th May, came home on Friday. I was alone till husband came home that evening. If for some reason he hadn't come home I would have been just fine. I AM taking care of myself. This is Sunday-three days out and I'm fine. Going back to work tomorrow.

I was May 14th too. I think you are tight in the stomach area but probably the same as any lapriscopic surgery really. Move slow when bending and use pain meds as needed. I have a 6 year old and a 3 year old and I am not lifting them but I am cleaning up after them as usual. :rolleyes2:

Thanx everyone for the feedbacks and trust me it eased my mind alot coming from you guys.

Pennreporter,

Though m not banded yet either but from wat i have read soo far...if i were u and in alot pain the day of surgery and strongly believe the pain would cont..the following day i would request the doctors if i could stay another day at hospital, but thats just me...since i live alone in toronto as well...the main reason i decided to get banded in Dubai (If i do) is coz i was gonna be all by myself in toronto and noone at all to be there or takecare of me if i was in some sorta need since everyones experience with surgery and pain in different, some tend to recovery way faster than others...

GoodLuck

I was banded on May 7th and they didn't tell me not to bend. They just said not to lift over 10 lbs for two weeks. I feel good. I am a hairdresser and went back to work on the 6th day after surgery. I had some pain but it was tolerable. They did keep me over night in the hospital right after surgery because I had so much pain so they could give me IV pain meds. I'm 10 days out now and feel good other than that I can't sleep on either side. I am sick of sleeping on my back. haha

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
