Questions about getting Stuck....

Recommended Posts

ok, so i've had dry chicken and triscuits get stuck in my throat (near the base of my throat), and consequently have encountered sliming.

but don't think i've had anything get stuck in my band. is that because i've only had one fill, and the opening is still big?

when people talk about getting stuck, are they referring to their band or their throats?

When I refer to getting stuck it is just like you described, just a couple of bites and it needs to come back up. I don't know anything about getting something stuck in the actual band. I have had 2 fills and did not get stuck until after my second fill. I have my 3rd fill scheduled for Thursday, I still don't have enough restriction. I have been bad and gained 5 lbs back, so I really need it. We are finally getting some decent weather so I have been able to get out and walk more again. I know that will jump start the weight loss again.

Good luck to you!

Karen, I too feel like food gets stuck in my throat, it's almost like a giant burp that is stuck. I had my 2nd fill today. When my doctors had me drink some Water and asked if I felt restriction I wasn't sure where I was suppose to feel it. I just know after swolling a couple sips of water it felt like I had a burp stuck. I am just hoping this fill helps with the hunger, because I get hungery between meals. Just be careful when you are eating. I am always reminding myself to chew and take small bites.

I have the same problem about eating smal bites and chewing enough. I tend to take too large of a bite and then it is hard to chew as much as I should. My husband reminds me when we are having dinner, because he has seen me get stuck so often. I should remember what the nutrisionist said sip, sip, sip and chew, chew, chew!! I get my 3rd fill today so I hopefully will have more restriction. I just hope it does not make me get stuck even more.

Have a great day!!

I haven't gotten anything stuck in my band but I have had stuff stuck in my throat and then I burped it right back up. I imagine having something stuck in your band must heart like hell!!!

Good Luck today Bernadette!

Getting stuck for me i thought was when you eat something that covers the opening of your pouch, to where you cant hold nothing down. not that i have experience that, but from what i read and what a coworker experience, i am thinking i haven't experienced it yet. It got to the point where she couldn't hold down Water, What happend was she had gotten a fill, and contiuned to take her pills which got stuck. its a whole new experince from what i hear. but the upside she lost 11lbs in a week. But the pain in the throat and mine feels more in my chest and i feel like i can't breathe, which i think i from big bites and not chewing enough:smile2:

Hi Everyone

Well I had my 3rd fill on Thursday and everything seemed to be okay for the first couple days. Then I started getting everything stuck...I mean everything!! I could not even get Water down. I tried eating all sorts of different foods yesterday only to have them come back up! I could not even get yogurt down. That really sucks when you can't get anything to go down, Oh well I have lost another 2 pounds thanks to this. I was able to get a Protein drink down this morning and hopefully food will too. I will keep everyone posted.

PS Hug a soldier!!!

Bernadette,

I think I warned you about this. The same thing happened to me. I was fine the first two days and then BAM! I had issues for about 3 days and then things smoothed out. I was restricted in the mornings and then that smoothed out and now I'm famished and ready for another fill.

Give it time and just stick to what you're able to tolerate. I know it sucks but it eventually gets better.

I'm gonna try to get a fill on thursday and I'm sure I'll be complaining about the same thing.

Yes you warned me about it but I figured I would make it okay but NO stuck, stuck, stuck!! I felt like all I did yesterday was slime up everything, not a pleasant feeling. Today has gone better so far but I have not tried eating yet. Time will tell, good luck on your next fill.

I was banded on 3/27/09 and I am barely at a 4cc filling, finally I am feeling restricted, and yes thats exactly it, it feels like something is stuck in my throat. It wont stop till I finally throw up what I ate, Its been a little over a week now since my last fill, and things are getting better, Im supposed to go back for another fill on the 12th of June, How do I know if I need another fill or not?? I have been depressed because i have only lost 20 pounds total....

How is everyone doing this week??? I finally got past my being stuck episodes. I have to constantly remindmyself chew, chew, chew. I have tried puting down my fork in between bitesand that has helped alot. I have not had anything stuck in almost a week. I have stayed at about the same weight, lost one more pound, but my clothes are really loose YEAH. Im loving this even with the tough times.

Thanks ladies!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
