Leptin videos- could this be the answer to why I've been fat my whole life?

Recommended Posts

Research has been going on regarding Leptin since 1995. It helps mice but not humans. They can't give it to humans effectively; it doesn't cross the blood/brain barrier. So it's all hype...so far. Maybe in the future, but not yet.

If/when it works you'll know; you'll hear it on the news!

did you watch the video at all?

it talks about eating certain foods and not snacking and eating at certain times because it affects leptin and our biological survival mechanisms to hold onto fat rather than release it.

its very informative.

the reason why obesity has not been "treated" effectively with a leptin drug is because it doesn't exist- and can't exist also, doctors prefer pushing drug companies that wine and dine them.

I personally have f'ed up my body by over eating and snacking too much my entire life so it is a very hard thing to reverse. I am aware that I may be leptin resistant, because it seems to be the exact culprit in my weight loss hinderance. Even with the band it is hard for me to not desire a snack.< /p>

Obesity is a very complex conditions and not nearly enough research has been done to find out all the mechanisms that go into it. Obviously we eat more calories than we burn. But thin people get hungry and eat Snacks, too. They don't eat Protein for every Breakfast, and some eat at night, too. We all know people like that and we also know people who have been overweight/obese practically from birth. It's like they never had a chance.

The video made some good points. But basically it was about food choices and Portion Control. That's a diet and who wouldn't lose weight if we followed what he proposed? But I also think he had a book and products to sell and he managed to inject them into his video.

So, again, I think things like leptin do play a role, but much, much more research has to be done. Some day, maybe 100 years from now they will figure it all out and those people will be shocked that we used to band or remove part of the stomach or reroute the intestines to deal with this problem. Thanks for sharing this information with us. It was interesting.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
