Actually while diabetes (or blood sugar issues) is a big offender, as is lack of sleep...just being too full shouldn't really cause it unless you had a lot of carbs. However...it is not "normal". Most of us do NOT get sleepy every time we eat. Therefore it's something the OP should get checked out. It may be minor, and in fact probably is, but it shouldn't be ignored.

I'm a nurse too and I'm sure you were thoroughly screened for diabetes before surgery, so don't worry yourself about that. My full signal is actually a sort of dizzy/high feeling for a second. It's called a vaso-vagal response and it happens because of a cranial nerve that feeds the digestive tract. It's like a temporary glitch in the program. It's the same response that makes you dizzy if you strain to hard during a bowel movement. Google it and then run it by your doc to see if he agrees.

The dizzy/high feeling is probably a more accurate description of what I feel. It does come on all of the sudden, but it's brief n passes momentarily. I never actually go to sleep because of it. It does feel a lot like sleepiness.lol.

Wow. Eating makes me high. :rolleyes2:

My doctor told me that if I want to be thin I have to stop eating before I feel full...

I'm sorry but I think that's an unrealistic request. Isn't the whole point of the lapband to feel full? Unless you mean stop and then the fullness feeling comes later, in a few minutes?

I've only had one fill, but never really had a full signal until 3 weeks after my fill. Now I've noticed when I have my evening meal that after about 3 ounces of Protein and a little veggie my throat has a sense of fullness. It just started one night. I have read other are tigher in the morning and loosen up as the day goes on. I seem to be just the opposite. Weird huh?

I have had a little discomfort in other areas occasionally but never thought of it being a radiating sign of being full. Will pay more attention to that. Otherwise, I just eat a set amount and kind of lose interest - other than my evening full feeling that's my usual sign to stop.

I am a nurse...get checked regardless. It IS a sign of diabetes but can be a sign of other issues as well, especially if it happens after every meal. Tell your doc!

Sorry if you got offended.. if you are a nurse then I am sure you know that people and nurses have all have differant outlooks on why things happen. So the best advice is like you said I've said we've all said get checked by doc. ONLY if it happens after everymeal would it raise concern?.. Sugar levels after eating will make alot of people feel sleepy after eating. Not to say it is normal but very common

Sorry if you got offended..

I'm not at all offended; I didn't take it personally...you don't know me from Adam so it couldn't be personal! But perhaps it is that I live in the "diabetes capital" (as we affectionately call it; it's not official) and falling asleep after every meal isn't normal or good and is often a blood sugar issue and should be checked by a doc. There's a lot of misinfo here on the boards and I don't mind at all being called when I'm wrong (very human here) but also try to stand up if I think something is right; because it is important. I didn't mean it as a personal attack on you either...just that the OP needs to ask her doc because whatever it is, it isn't normal.

well it doesnt happen over night... he said it will take three years to retrain ourselves how to eat... but its true that thin people dont eat every meal until they are so full that their back hurts and are throwing up... that is my problem and the past few days i have been trying to stop before that point and it is working.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
