11 Days Post-Op from Long Island

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Had my surgery last week at Winthrop Hospital and used Dr. Brathwaite. What a terrific surgeon and staff! Honestly a few hours before surgery and right up to them wheeling me in, I was having panic attacks out of no where. I was ready to walk out of the hospital but am soooo glad I didn't. Everyone reassured me that I was making the right decision and I know I did. In the first week I lost 11 pounds.

My only concern is that I am 12 days out from surgery and no weight loss since the first week. Anyone know why? I am barely eating 600 calories and am moving & drinking. I am on soft liquids for a few more days. Any suggestions or explanations would be helpful.

Thanks

I am three and a half weeks since surgery and most of my weight loss was the first ten days also. I am hoping that is becaue I have not received my first fill. I have lost about 15 pounds. I am also exercising and have changed my habits drastically. I was expecting more weight loss than this.

You are not getting enough calories, so your body has gone into starvation mode, basically when you dont eat enough your body holds onto everything it has, wont let go to conserve itself and drastically slows the metabolism as well, just keep following the doctors advice and you will start losing again.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
