When did you start getting hungry???

Recommended Posts

I'm day nine and have gotten hunger pangs yesterday and today but thankfully the 6 tablespoons of Soup or mushies takes care of that.

I know what you mean, I was hungry a few days in and was not liking the liquid diet! It wasn't keeping me full and I was hungry all the time! so yea I'm pretty sure it's normal. But a week and a couple days after surgery I talked to my physician and he said that If i was tolerating the mushie food well then I could try going for solid food even meat. So first thing I did was went and bought a taco from taco bell (lol bad on me I know)! It went down fine and I was good from there, but it's all different for everyone and you just have to talk to your Dr. about whats ok for you.

I was hungry immediately following surgery (4/30) and am now on mushie foods. It does take less to fill me up compared to before surgery but I don't feel like I have any restriction. I can certainly eat more than 4oz at a time.

I also am at a stand still with weight loss since ending the liquid diet.< /p>

I am hoping this changes with my first fill on June 9!

How the mighty have fallen,

I was pretty cocky the first 3 weeks after surgery. NO hunger, barely ate bare minimum of food. Very restricted. And felt great. Did not want food, period! I thought, wow, this is the life!

Suddenly this past Wednesday -- whammo -- that orange hungry monster from WW started to beat my butt! I am on solid foods, and decided to get 5 boneless wings from KFC for lunch, and then followed that with 2 tacos hard shell of course. KFC and Taco Bell share a building near my work. I ate slowly, chewed really well, and it all went down easily :scared2: Yikes! This was my first journey to a fast food place since pre-surgery diet started 4/8/o9. How quickly I backslided into greasy fatty foods! To be honest, though, I have had loose bowels ever since. My tummy did not like the fat, I guess!

That was a learning lesson for me. I have to go by my PLAN, not how I FEEL. So, it is back to lowfat, nonfat Protein sources for me!

I am still only eating my 3 small (1 cup) meals a day, but I feel hunger for sure. I am just ignoring it.

I'm 9 days out as well and I've been sneaking some mushies, although my doctor's plan is for full liquids during week two. I had a 1/2 cup of thin mashed potatoes today for lunch and some mushed up croutons in my French onion Soup for supper. Both were great. Naturally, I feel guilty because this is the first time I've disobeyed the surgeon. But when I get hungry, the thought of strained soup or Jello makes me ill.

Oh good!!! lol I have just had a couple of potato gems for lunch....I chewed them up so much that they turn into a liquid before I swallowed them but I still feel guilty!! Sooo tasty though lol...

My husband is making burritos for dinner (i don't trust myself to cook real food) and I just ate a bite of avocado. I mashed it up on a plate and licked it off the fork in probably 50 licks I was so paranoid. Of course it was probably thinner than the Soup i've been eating, but I was so nervous since I'm still on full liquids being 7 days post op. I won't make it a habit but it did feel good. I'm on LI too, who was your dr? I used Dr. Ahmad at Mather and he and his team are amazing!!

I was "hungry" at day one. I woke up the day after the operation VERY eager for the cup of coffee and juice they brougth to me.

But I filled up extremely quickly (a few tablespoons) and it lasted for hours. Then I'd get hungry again and it was time to eat.

But I had more problems with my body needing food but my stomach not telling me to eat - I had a bit of fainting by about day 4. I started on proper food - still liquid, quite thin and thickening up but I would do stuff like blend up the roast lamb I'd cooked the rest of the family for dinner - bit of lamb, quarter of a potato, a spoonful or two of vegies and a lot of chicken stock and blend to a soupy liquid. Sounds revolting, tasted great at that stage. And that sustained me a lot better than trying to live on what is basically junk food - custard, jelly, juice.< /p>

I made Soups with meat and Pasta and vegies too, even blended up spaghetti bolognaise, with lots of extra tinned tomatoes (and only a few pieces of Pasta, it was mainly meat sauce).

I lost tons of weight in that liquid stage and healed up well.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
