I will be having my lap band procedure monday and is starving on this diet. mu gluclose levels drops extremely low. My dietitian had to include low fat pudding, as well as Jello, but that is hardly helping. I know what divialiciousdee is experiencing. Is there any hope. I am a diabetic and don't want my levels to go any lower. Will this all be worth having the lap ban? Help I am getting weaker by the day - hoping that i won't be to weak for the procedure.

Well ebony I am back. My surgeon says that the doctor can modify your diet if need be. My dietician totally redid my diet. I am on a new diet that is so much better. I could ony do a week of liquids and if you are diabetic your diet should be different to allow for sugar control. Don't change your mind about the procedure because I was whining! Have the surgery, I am glad i did. My problem was my dietician had me doing the RNY diet instead of the lapband diet. Talk with your dietician call her/him and bug the hell out of them until you have a solution to make you feel better. After the surgery the liquids weren't that hard to do for the first 5 days for me it was that sixth day.

:cross-eye Ebonysilk, I saw your postings on another thread about the fill being too tight. I know this must be extremely freaky and scary to read about these new and strange things, but don't let it deter you from what you want. If you look at that thread now, you will see that I too, am having a really bad fill experience this week. But even though things were so bad for me, when I went back to the doc he wanted to know if I wanted all of the fill taken out and I told him absolutely not, I still want restriction, just not quite as much as was there at the moment, I'd like to breath please!!

Anyway, after almost 4 years, this is the first time this has happened, so I don't think it is all that common, just get to know your body and you will be able to at least some extent know what it is asking for. I too am a diabetic and I am truly sorry to hear that you are having such a difficult time for this preop process. Every doctor is different and I know that sometimes they don't pay attention to patients as individuals and therefore require special needs, they just treat us like everyone is the same.

Call and bug the doctor if you need to give him a gentle reminder, don't be afraid of him thinking you are a pain, let him know you concerns are genuine and he will respect you for that.

Good luck on Monday, you will be in my thoughts and prayers that you have the easiest surgery ever and the quickest of recoveries. God Bless.:(

Cindy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
