New here please help!! Chest pain of a sort.......

Recommended Posts

I was banded on May 5th. I am supposed to be on soft foods. Well, last night I ate about 1/2 of a chicken breast. I thought I chewed it well, but I don't know now. I did probably eat too fast. Anyway after eating I had that full feeling in my chest. Now, all day today, I still have that feeling, but I also have a pain under and through my left breast. Any idea what this is? I have been drinking Water all day long. I have not been nauseous or anything.

If your doctor says soft foods, why are you not eating soft foods? Your body needs to heal. Now is not the time to "test" the waters. The pains could be gas and it's possible that you did something to the band. If you're not better in the morning, call your doctor. If you do feel better in the morning, don't make the same mistake twice while you're healing.

I haven't been banded yet, but daughter has. To this day (14 mos.) she still can't eat chicken breast. It's too dry. So I'm sure that's all it is, but try to get as much Fluid as you can tolerate.

Good luck

Trisha

I'm confused about what I am supposed to be eating on soft foods. My list says chicken, tuna, ground beef on the soft foods lists. Is chicken a no-no? I have been eating it. I too have had the sharp pain under my ribs and below my left breast. At first I thought it was gas but I feel like it's been to long for the gas to still be in there. I am walking and thought I was eating like I am supposed to. I guess I should probably call the doctor on Monday.:grouphug:

I have not been able to tolerate chicken unless it is chicken thighs. The pain is probably gas and it does feel like chest pain if you get too full or something gets stuck. Walking and stretching helps alot. The hospital gave me a list of soft foods maybe you could ask the md office or call the hospital and ask the dietician.

I was told the gas pains can last more than a week and they did for me. I had such bad shoulder pain that they gave me a chest x ray to check for a blood clot. A couple of days later it was gone about 11 days after surgery. Maybe that is what it was and not the chicken breast.:grouphug: Those gas pains were worse than any surgery pain.

Don't confuse soft foods with mushie foods. Mushies are things like refried Beans, mashed potatoes. Or BLENDED meats. Soft foods are things like baked fish, or crumbled meat (ground turkey, ground beef) Regular foods are things like chicken breast.

Besides, each doc has a different preop diet and it is VITAL that you not eat ahead of your diet. My surgeon says that is the number ONE cause of band slippage; patients advancing their diet ahead of doctor's orders. I know you get hungry but it's just a short while. Hang in there with the diet your doctor gives you. If you just can't, call and ask what you can eat.

Since you are still feeling pain you should let your doc know what you did. You may have hurt yourself, you may not have. He'll be the one to make that call! Good luck and quit cheating on your post op diet! Even if you don't hurt yourself now you can set yourself up for a slip later on! I know you don't want that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
