Scorpioqt 1 Posted May 15, 2009 I was just wondering....when all of us are ready to go back to eating normal foods, what type of diet are we supposed to follow. I been reading several boards some say 1200 to 1500 cal...low carb high Protein...some follow weight watchers....some do low calorie low fat. Does anyone know??? Just curious. I would hate to gain back my lovely pre op & post op pounds, once I introduce real food back into my diet. :hurray: :grouphug: By the way we're all doing awesome congrats on everyones success!!!! __________________ start/current/goal 289 / 271 /
SpideyMom 1 Posted May 15, 2009 I think it's a personal choice that you discuss with your dietitian. I'm going to be following a low-carb, low-fat diet. I'm also giving up sweets because those are my downfall every time. I have an addiction to sugar, and my doctor told me that the majority of people who fail with the LapBand are those that have a sweet tooth.
Kellster 1 Posted May 16, 2009 I think it all depends on your surgeon, yet again. We know all surgeons are different. I don't know for sure what dietary suggestions mine has for post-band "real food, " but I think I remember something about 1000-1200 calories, balanced meals of course with lean Protein. I'll find out more at my post-op follow-up appt 5/27.
hallelujah.girl 1 Posted May 16, 2009 My surgeon says eat Protein first, then if you have room, veggies, then fruit. He says we will fill up fast so make sure to get your protein in. I think that would pretty much be considered a low carb plan.
LindaD 3 Posted May 18, 2009 I'm told Protein first too. Then other veggies. And then hopefully I will feel satisfied and won't choose to eat additional things, even if I CAN tolerate them. To me, this jives with what I believe about nutrition. I believe the focus on carb-laden foods for the past few decades is what has been contributing to the obesity epidemic. So I'm looking forward to going low-carb. I'm not going to count exactly. I will eat from the types of foods that are acceptable (meats, veggies, etc.) and if I have tiny amounts of other stuff, I'm not going to stress over it. I am counting on the Band to help keep my appetite in check. If I have the value of that, I am confident (hopeful?) I can manage to stay fairly low carb with good Portion Control. I've been doing it for weeks now, using an appetite suppressor (and lots of exercise).
Jachut 487 Posted May 18, 2009 In Australia we're encouraged to follow a normal diet - as in eat Protein, carbs, fats, even have the occasional glass of wine or whatever, but keep portions small - in other words focus on it as a lifestyle, not a restrictive diet. By and large, it works well. I eat and alwasy did eat, bread and carb foods moderately and it hasnt stopped me losing weight and I dont do Protein first. But that's not to say that one way is right and one way is wrong. What's right for YOU is what you can follow with the least disruption to your daily routines, your family's lifestyle etc and what suits your body. I run an hour a day so I burn off the carbs I eat.
