Foods that taste completely different to you now...

Recommended Posts

I have had some strange food taste changes and I thought it would be interesting to see if anyone else has too.

Here are mine:

- hamburger tastes like cardboard (no flavor) after you chew it a thousand times;

- as soon as I put tuna in my mouth, I gag from the overwhelming fishy flavor (I used to love it); :puke:

- weak ice tea is my favorite friend now (instead of diet coke);

- sweets give me a headache (I'm a chocaholic);

- coffee tastes so bitter after a few swills (even with three splendas in it)

- had 1/2 a small piece of store bought chocolate cake and it SUCKED! Way too sweet, made my teeth ache!

- bread does NOT go down! (yippee that's my worst enemy!)

Thats all I've tried that new so far. Still loving the refried Beans, chicken breasts, salad is divine (like always), although I need less dressing than before to be happy. :hurray:

Just wondering about you guys...:grouphug:

I can no longer eat broccoli. It gets in my throat and make me gag! I chew it up really good but I still can not swallow it. I had scrambled eggs this morning and they don't like me either. It actually hurt when they hit the band part. I am afraid to eat anything now. LOL Guess I will lose by starving to death!

I thought food would taste so much better than it does. Friday's at work is treat day. I decided on a M&M cookie. I took 1/3 of one. It didn't taste all that good. I was glad I limited my portion. I think my taste buds have changed! :hurray:

I used to love tuna...now it is just as you said and too fishy and the consistency is not good. I found some little premixed cans that are sweeter in taste and I can get them down if I have to.

I now love iced tea too...used to be a diet pepsi-holic.

Never was much of a sweets person, but now I can barely stand to watch OTHER people eat sweet stuff. yuk

And I was the biggest coffee drinker you ever met! BEFORE. Now it just does not taste good to me. I have tried brewing it lighter, but I think I am just not supposed to drink it anymore. I would never have predicted this! lol

So funny how things taste different than we remember them.

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

        Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
