Flouroscopy anyone?

Recommended Posts

I just had my 1st appt for a fill today and my surgeon could not feel/find my port even with Ultrasound. I am scheduled on Monday to go the hospital to have flouroscopy done for my fill and he will put in 2cc's. Has anyone else had this? I was very frustrated but he said not to worry it isnt my fault.

He also said the first few fills are the hardest because when you loose more weight it is easier to palpate the port...

Also I found out that even though I gained some weight since being back on solid foods my total weight loss has equaled 2 lbs per week since surgery- so up and down like so many others... how do you deal with it?:)

I had this done on Friday. I went for a fill last week and my surgeon could not locate my port. He said as a lose weight it will be easier to find. My weight was pretty much the same for about 3 weeks and I told him I could pretty much eat what I want. He put 3cc into my already filled 2cc.

For the fluoroscopy I laid down and they took still images on my stomach. Pretty cool to see my port. He poked around for a little bit and they took a side image to see how close he was. He was real close and he finally got it. Thank goodness for the lidocaine!

It was real quick once he found it. Good luck!

I go in for my first fill on June 2nd. I'm really nervous. When I saw my doctor at my 2 week check-up she told me that my first fill would be done under flouroscopy because it was so hard to find the port the first time. I'm glad to know that they numbed the area before they stuck you! Me and needles <shudder> lol. You will have to let me know how eating is after a first fill. I don't have any restriction either, and I'm wondering how it's going to change with the first fill.

Good luck to all you bunnys!

Terri

Oh i definitely have restriction now I had like 2.5 cc and now I have 5.5... Nothing has come up as of yet but I have to chew everything really well and breads, noodles, and dry meats hurt going down, YAY~

Kind of weird that one day I wan eat whatever and the next day I have to break my Multivitamin in half to avoid pain...

Did things go well with you?

I had this. It's common procedure with my doc - they have one set up in a room at their office. It was actually really cool - they found my port easily and then I got to watch on a tv as I swallowed some barium and they made sure it was going down ok.

My experience (2 days ago) was much like CelticAngel reported. Was my first fill, 3.0 cc's. I am on 4 days of liquids following that fill, then shall see how it helps. I spend about 10 days being really hungry before the fill. Started seeing some yo-yo weights, up and down by 2.5 pounds.

As I detest broth like liquids, I am just doing the Optifast milkshakes for the first few days. Looks like the yo-yo has stopped and I am now down 30 pounds so far (from start of pre-op diet).

So, relax and enjoy, it is all part of the ride to a better healthier life.

Kind regards

k

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
