MMPI Test an FSA covered expense?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I have to take the 3 hour pysch test, which I'm assuming is MMPI. I called my FSA customer service and they said it's a covered expense, but for some reason I'm doubting them.

Anyone else submit this expense for re-imbursement?

It's going to cost me $160 and it's not a health insurance covered expense.

Thanks!!

Di

I haven't, but it should be covered by your FSA. It's an evaluation administered and reviewed by a medical professional. You could always call the FSA people again. You'd probably get a different person. I'd get names, etc...

If there is any question at all, you can get a letter of medical necessity from the doctors office and you are covered without issue. However, I really don't think you will have a problem with it.

I doubt very seriously that it's the MMPI. That would be a bit extreme. Mine and my daughters was basically just a pyschologist talking with you and asking questions. It's mainly to see that you have a healthy realistic mindset about what's going to happen and that you understand what you're getting into and not bulimic, etc. and that you've done your research and understand that the band is not the be-all end-all and is only a tool. MMPI is really a whole different thing.

Good luck

It is possible that it is the MMPI . . . others have had to take it.

It is like anything else with banding, all surgeons, pre-op requirements, post-op requirements, insurance requirements can vary greatly. The only true standard is lack thereof, lol.

Yes, it's the MMPI....states it on my list from the surgeon and it says it takes about 4 hours, then I meet with the pyschiatrist right after the test...wish I didn't have to take it..grrrrrr

Well, good luck with the MMPI...with my luck, they'd decide I was a multiple personality disorder or some other crazy stuff ... lol.

Four hours of answering questions will drive anyone crazy

Mine was the MMPI and yes I was able to use FSA to cover it. No problem. The test isn't that bad!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
