I dont see much on here in regards to fruit consumption. I'm not banded yet and wanted to know if fruit was a no no.

Well, I guess it depends on your perspective and idea of food priorities when banded.

If you're always trying to eat Protein and fill up on that, then you'd find it quite difficult to consume much fruit. Its very filling and I find it quite hard to eat, its one food that causes me quite a deal of discomfort, although I can get it down. Sometimes I have a glass of juice. But whole fruit is better.

I personally try to get at least one piece of fruit in per day - usually I'll slice up a banana to have on Cereal for Breakfast or I'll have a fruit smoothie, or I find I can get it down with yogurt too.

I focus more heavily on vegies as I find it much easier to eat a wider variety and greater quantity - and I figure fruit and vegetables as one food group, so I dont worry if I havent had "fruit" as long as a large portion of my daily intake is fresh produce.

But I dont focus on Protein or do protein first so its a lot easier.

I dont tend to eat fruit as a snack. I dont find a piece of fruit that appetising and never have. I like the look of a healthy, full fruit bowl on my kitchen bench and I'm very prone to buying fruit and not eating it, its something about the texture/crispness/coldness that I dont enjoy and never have.

I eat a lot of fruit, I am the opposite of Jachut as I find fruit easier than veggies. I have trouble with apples unless I peel them, but other than that I enjoy everything from blueberries to cantaloupe. Everyone is different in their tolerance, though. Good luck.

I eat fruit religiously twice a day and on many days three times. I have a problem with the Constipation that banding brings, and this seems to help. There are a couple of fruits that I seem to have more trouble with, but I just have to keep that in mind and chew better and longer. Strawberries are one of them. I eat a LOT of berries. If you eat citrus, try peeling the pithy skins off the sections before you eat them. Apples skins are a little tough as well, but everything else is fair game.

I eat strawberries sometimes....not as much as I would like. I have also eaten bananas.

Strawberries are about the best fruit for low carbs per serving size.

I eat strawberries, raspberries or blackberries on my yogurt in the morning. Sometimes I will have 1/2 a banana on my Cereal - but cereal hasn't been setting to well lately.

Sometimes I will have an apple with Peanut Butter or cheese for lunch. I also like cantalope.

I love berries, mango, cherries, and melon, and luckily, these seem to work the best w/ my band :crying: I do live in Upstate NY, however, and apples are huge here in the fall--I swear I've gone apple picking since I could stand, ha ha  Unfortunately, though, the first time I ate one post-band, I felt terrible and ended up PBing :frown: It took some behavior modification--doesn't everything--but now I know that if I want to eat some apple, I need to peel it, cut it into sections, and then chew it really well. Or, I can make a baked apple by sprinkling a bit of cinnamon and sugar on it and heating it in the microwave for a few minutes  I find that the decrease in volume of fruits and veggies is what really gets me, though. After dieting my whole life, it's still hard to readjust to the idea that they may not be the best things for me to eat  I'm not sure if it's the Fiber or what, but fruit and veg is especially filling for me post banding  On a side note: Unlike some others here, bananas seem to be a hit or miss for me :huh2: While I can eat them w/ cereal or yogurt, it's almost impossible for me to get half of one down by itself  I agree that it all depends on the person and their particular band, but I'm sure you will be able to eat at least some fruit with your band :smile2:

I can eat bananas, but the rest of my fruit has to be in a smoothie or yogurt. I cannot tolerate any other type of fruit. No matter how much I chew, it gets stuck. I can suck the juice out of an orange, but I get into trouble if I try and eat the flesh. Very weird...goes to show you how everyones body reacts differently to the band....

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
