Take away the pounds, but not tummy time!

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else have tummy sleeping restrictions. Im 2wks post op and my Dr told me I have 4 more weeks to go before I can sleep on my stomach again! I hate to complain, but my gosh. I am a tummy sleeper all the way and this is difficult. Sleeping on my side, to me, is a baby step away from sleeping on my stomach. I have no pain around my port, so I do not understand the problem.

Does anyone have the same problem?

I've never heard of this one! I slept on my stomach from night 2 and actually think it helps to prevent adhesions.

Did he say WHY?

No, he did not. He just gave me a pre op, and post op restriction list and this (Tummy Sleeping) was one of them, along with Recliners (increases the chance of blood clots).

I did not think to question the tummy sleeping, I just kind of trusted his expertise. Now I am thinking I made a mistake by not questioning, this is torture!

Seriously I'd call and ask him tomorrow. I've never heard of the recliner/blood clot thing either (and my husband has been an RN for 25 years, and I just graduated with my BSN in nusring) Not that your doc is wrong, mind you...just that I have NEVER heard of that.

Maybe the instructions are old...based on the old style of banding (ie cutting you open) and don't apply now?

I never say to ignore doc's advice but I'd almost tell you go ahead. I don't know you or your doc though; he may do something some way that requires a long non-tummy recovery!

Call and ask.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
