Sublingual B12

Recommended Posts

Thoughts? Advice?

I never had to take it with the band, but now I have been reading everything, and going over the stuff the new surgeon gave me. . .

The psych I saw today had LapBand, she takes a no calorie sublingual B12.< /p>

The paperwork I have says that it will be suggested on a PRN basis. Who/what determines when it will be needed.

Your stomach produces Intrinsic Factor. With a smaller stomach you might not produce enough to absorb B12. In less than 1% of sleeved people we do not absorb enough B12 due to IF. If that happens, go to your local grocery store and purchase SL B12. Problem fixed.

This is diagnosed through labs.

My surgeon lists B12 as an optional supplements and said B12 deficiency is rare with the sleeves. Mine was fine the last time I had labs done so I don't take it.

I take a prescribed dose in a Rx pill called Folguard or ComBgen but it's because I have a genetic (MTHFR2+) predisposition to clotting and had bilateral pulmonary emboli a few years ago. It's used to keep my homocystine level <10. You should be fine.

What symptoms would you have if you needed B12?

Thank you! I just looked up causes of Hair loss and it said 4 months after major surgery, people experience hair loss. That is right when mine started with banding. I hope it's not just a fact for me that if I have surgery, I lose hair. I stocked up today on all the necessary Vitamins and supplements, but then again, I did that with banding and lost it anyway.

Check out this supplement ... I have 3 friends who SWEAR by it ... their hair has gotten thick, their nails are strong and their skin is softer ... I'm planning on ordering some to start taking once I'm on solid food ... I've taken his products and they are great ... you can also order them on HSN ... and shipping is FAST.

Vegas Angel you were recommending a supplement but forgot to post the name.

Guess I did something wrong ... sorry ... here you go

go to www.procapslabs.com, choose women's health and then select cutica.

Be sure to read the reviews. I know 3 people who swear by it. I use several other products of his and I really like them. I'll be getting some of the cutica too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
