Hi all,

Im 6 weeks post op. I had my first fill 3 days ago. Tonight, I ate a little bit of chili and it came with a steamed pita. I had about two bites of the pita and got stuck. It took forever to come up. Finally did and I thought that was that. Unfortunately, I tried a little tiny bit of chili after about 30 minutes. Came right back up. Waited a half hour. Tried again. Came back up after much agonizing pain. Now, a small sip of Water hurts even.

Is something still stuck?

Am I swollen from the three consecutive PBs?

This afternoon, I had a small chicken greek salad with no problem at all. I dont think this is from the fill. I think its from the pita getting stuck.

Please advise! What do I do now? Im scared to try anything. Ill go to bed hungry, thats not an issue. But, what do you think is going on??

Thanks in advance for all your suggestions and knowledge

Katie

I THINK what's wrong is, after a PB, you need to go back to liquids for a while to let things calm down, and you didn't do that but kept eating.

IF you still have trouble tomorrow afternoon, especially keeping liquids down, call your doc. But give it 24 hours on liquids (Soups, Protein shakes, water) and then try something you've eaten successfully and chew it really really REALLY well, small bites. You should be ok.

And of course after the 24 hours of liquids, if you still can't eat "food", call your doc.

Don't worry; you're learning a new way to eat. It takes a bit of trial and error!

What you can eat and the amount you can eat changes with every fill. You may no longer be able to eat bread, or it may be temporary. I think once you get stuck, your stomach or band gets irritated and there may be some swelling. Have only liquids for a day or so to let it settle down...then don't try whatever made you get stuck for a while.

Restlessmonkey and glorybee are right. According to my doctors, if you get stuck and PB then you have to go on liquids for the next 24hrs because you need to let your stomache heal...so trying to eat more food just irriated you even more. I just got my third fill this week and I'm having trouble eating most food...this morning, for example, I had ONE bit of a Breakfast sausage and ONE bite of a western omlet and I felt like I was slightly stuck, like it was having trouble passing through...it took about a 1/2 and I finally can eat a little more of my eggs...with this fill, I really have to eat TINY pieces, something I'm still learning and working on and I've been banded since November 20th.

Go on liquids for the next 24 hours and then eat some soft foods after that and see what happens...if your still having a problem, call you doctor! Hope this helped!

After the PB definitely do not eat anything. And I even waited to drink something...I didn't want to further any irritation. I waited about an hour then I had a popsicle and that felt good. Hope that helps.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
