So my paperwork was submitted to insurance yesterday. Got final paperwork today for Medical clearance. Approx how long does it take for insurance to approve it. I have a tentative date of 6/25. I'm excited and nervous at the same time.

Hey there,

I have BCBS of GA PPO. My work was submitted on April 7 and I got my approval on April 16. It may have come a day or two earlier but that is when I called my insurance company. I had been calling every other day. I called the number on the back of the card I did not wait on the doctor to call me because once you get approved it takes them up to a week to get the response to your doctor. So my advise to you would be to call on Friday and then again on Tuesday or Wednesday and you should have an answer by then.

I had my surgery on 4/28 this was because I was suppose to start my pre-op diet which I never really did. I was just soooo hard to stay on it. By the way where are you getting banded at? Who is your doctor?

Let me know how things are coming along. And good luck!!

So, I called insurance company today they told me that as of now its not been entered into the computer so they don't even know if they have gotten it yet. I know that I meet all the prerequisites for the surgery. This waiting part really sucks though.

So my Dr's office called me Tuesday said I had been approved except for my Clearance letter from Cardiologist. I faxed it over and she told me I would have an answer by Wednesday at the latest. Now here it is Friday and I still don't have an answer. Called her yesterday was told let me check and I'll call you right back. Yeah no answer. Gonna try and call her after lunch today. But don't want to be to big of a pest.

I say go ahead and call. The is the only way to push things along. This is the way to show them how serious you are about getting approved and moving things along.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
