no drinking after meals

Recommended Posts

Not drinking during meals and waiting an hour after eating , seems to be one of the hardest things that I am

experiencing. Also trying for find different things to drink. I am bored with Water and the mix-ins. I really want a soda but I know I can't have that. Any suggestions?

I love sugar free iced tea. And you might want to reconfirm the drinking thing? My doc's instructions were similar to yours but he revamped them to be no liquids 15 minutes before or after meals and non during. I am a firm believer that we should do what our docs tell us, but one hour BEFORE meals almost makes no sense, especially since the liquid just "goes through" our stoma.

See if he won't relent a little

Sun tea is really good. I go through a picture of that every other day.

Wow. I thought I had it bad waiting 1/2 hour. It is hard, especially when it's hot out and, for me at least, eating almost all Protein, which makes me very very thirsty too.

We have always had an iced tea maker that didn't get much use as I was completely and utterly addicted to diet coke. Now that I've been banded I love trying different concoctions to make tea. I go to tea shops and organic stores and even grocery stores and Walmart and scour the aisles for interesting sounding teas. I mix brew with two bags of luzianne tea and two of a flavored tea. I mix it up and bring a gallon of it to work on Monday. This week it's jasmine and passion fruit. I sweeten it with Splenda, and I've found that the longer I'm banded the less Splenda I use. I've started to be able to taste things again so I don't need quite so much sweetening !

From time to time I also drink VitaminWater10 (the 10 calorie version). I usually don't drink a whole one in a sitting because it tastes too sweet, but it's perfect for something a little different. I like the orange version (tastes like Tang) and the XXX.

Good luck finding something you love !

I love Lipton diet green tea and white tea. I was a big diet coke drinker, but don't miss it since surgery.

WOW drinking 2 hours after? That's madness! Good for you sticking; I don't think I could (and after my first fiasco with my liver and no band, I DO try to do what my doc asks of me!)

To be honest, as I've gotten more and more restriction (FINALLY!) It has gotten easier to not drink with meals because it hurts like the dickens if I do. And sometimes I clock watch for that 15 minutes (my timeline per my doc) if what I ate was too salty, but often I forget and its 30 minutes or more before I go get my water/tea/whatever.

I'd think as the time passes and you get more familiar with yourself and your band that 1 hour or 2 may be adjusted down a little, but it will also get easier.

And some do drink soda but I think...wow, of all the things to do to make our band fail, why would you?

It's possible once you've lost and are really used to the band you can add carbonation back in but for now, hang in there.

You MAY ask your doc if you could have some flat (yuk to me but maybe not to you?)

I know how you feel!

I am almost 2 months post-op and while I do not "crave" soda, I went from drinking 6-7 cans in a day to nada. I haven't had even a sip since the day before my surgery.

I have been tempted once or twice to just have a sip of one, but I was so addicted before, I'm afraid that a sip will slip into way more, so I stay away.

I used to hate Water. I find that the more I drink now, the better. I am less hungry and to be honest, not as thirsty. However, I am no Water preacher, nor can I *just* drink water.

I typically have the Vitamin Water 10 (as stated above, orange is really good). I usually have one of those a day, along with maybe a tea or crystal light.

My only drink indulgence is juice. I'm aware that we shouldn't be drinking our calories and that it's basically sugar water, but...

I was a huge fruit eater (no pun intended) before the band and I am just now allowed to start adding some back in. I find that ONE 8oz glass of juice per day satisfies both the sweet craving and the fruit craving for me. Though I dilute mine. It's too sweet alone. Funny how my tastes changed after my band.

My favourite is strawberry cranberry juice. I go about 5 oz juice and 3 oz water so that I can still taste it but it's not so strong. I'll also do apple juice, etc.

I found a store-brand organic juice the other day (at Giant stores if you know what those are) that is called berry berry good lemonade that has a very faint taste and is very good and kind of refreshing.

You have to alternate to not get bored/sick of stuff. I couldn't touch a crystal light for a month after surgery becuase I was so sick of them. Just keep searching for something you like!

Hi:

I love Diet Snapple Peach Iced Tea - yummy.

Sometimes if I'm really thirsty after eating I go and rinse my mouth with warm Water and spit it out. It makes me less thirsty and I didn't actually have anything to drink.

I love my band!

Sue

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
