Can you still eat it with the band? I would really like to know if anyone has tried and how it went. I love sushi and that will be something I would really miss.

I can eat it, but I usually leave most of the rice behind, so I can eat more fish!:smile2:

Good idea. I will have to try that.

bmann,

I love sushi too. Most sushi bars have some type of rice free roll. I asked at my favorite sushi bar. They called is a volcano roll and doesn't have rice. It is warpped in seaweed and white fish. They also had another roll that was wrapped in cucumber as well if that interests you.

Do you sit at the bar or at a table? Try sitting at the bar, the chefs are usually really helpful if you want to special order or pick their brain about a specialty roll.

For the longet time I could eat it without problem, then i began to leave most of the rice and now, it just plain doesnt appeal to me anymore because I just KNOW it would get stuck.

its amazing how your taste changes, and the foods you think you'll miss just lose their appeal.

My doctor's nutritionist suggested that I remove the seaweed covering (or order a variety that doesn't have seaweed on it). I guess it is very resilient and doesn't break down much w/ chewing, so it really poses a problem w/ the band. :Banane01: I would suggest ordering sashimi (just the fish), as some others have mentioned, or if you prefer rolls, some sushi places have a different type of wrapping material (I think it's made out of dried tofu) that is much more band-friendly. :purplebananna: These days, I too leave some of the rice beind, but the other stuff is yummier anyway, ha ha. :laugh:These tips have been a great help for me, as I have tried eating it the normal way w/ bad results :success1::Banane33: Best of luck!

Funny.... I don't have a problem with the rice, but the black seaweed stuff kills me. So I have to take mine apart if it has that. I love sushi. My son and I and my best friend go for sushi all the time. I'm delighted I can still eat it.

Rice is one of the few things that does give me a problem. Add to that the size issue - its hard to take a small bite of a sushi roll and it has the makings of a bad night.

I stick to tuna Shashmi these days

I love Sushi, not only because it's good but because I can order 2 small orders (4 pieces total) and be full. Very cost effective. :cursing:

If the rice bothers you order sashimi instead.

Sashimi FTW! Fresh tuna and salmon will practically melt in your mouth.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
