Anybody take a diuretic for blood pressure?

Recommended Posts

I'll open this up for discussion , but based on my own experience I recommend if you are taking a diuretic medication that you call your doctor and ask if you can temporarily stop it the day before surgery. The only bad thing I can say about my stay is they were pumping me full of fluids after surgery and having me take my diuretic which made resting/healing hard than it should be.

I take Lisinopril for HBP and my surgeon has told me to lose 100lbs before surgery. I read that diuretics can slow weight loss and asked my regular Doc about it and she said not to worry. I have lost 27lbs in 2 weeks so she was not worried. Perhaps I will ask her again before surgery for the reason you mentioned. Sorry you had a rough go at recovery. Good luck to you in the future with your weight loss with the Band!!!

I was told to not take my lisinopril HCTZ the day of surgery because of the diuectic when I went in for my pre-op eval.

I take Lisinopril with diuretic and even took it the morning before surgery. It didn't interfere at all with resting for me.

I have been told to discontinue my fish oil, Water pills, and glucosamine at least 3 days before surgery. The reason is that they all deplete water from your system and they dont want you going into surgery dehydrated. It makes surgery much more difficult from what my doctor told me.

I took (till this week) the same medicine. I didn't take it the morning of surgery, but they gave it to me that night. Made for a very long painful night getting up to go so often.

Oh, I can imagine! I probably should have taken mine that night but didn't until the next morning.

I had my doctor prescribe me lisinopril 10/12.5 but two pills a day as the genric form of the 20/25 was too big to swallow. Here's to the possiblility that we may be able to leave them behind one day!

I only take the HCTZ and was told to take it the morning of surgery with as little Water as possible.

After surgery, everything was still so asleep that I had to go by the clock, cause I wouldn't think about it and didn't want to get an infection. My HCTZ doesn't affect me like that anymore unless I haven't taken it for a couple of days.

I don't crush pills so I quarter this one and it's small enough to go through.

Like anything, I'm sure there are different schools of thought on this subject but my anesthesiologist also recommended I take my blood pressure with diuretic the morning of surgery as well as my surgeon and asst. surgeon. I assumed so my blood pressure wouldn't be too high since that is very dangerous during surgery. You can suffer a stroke during surgery if blood pressure is too high and being obese, this was one of my concerns.

Hello, I actually have Kaiser. If you struggle with your weight then I'm sure you understand that once you have made the decision for surgery you are ready. I attended orientation through Kaiser and was told that they are not currently doing the lap band procedure that they refer out to clinics for that procedure and the clinic they use is booked solid and not taking a waiting list. Therefore, I decided to go to Mexicali for my surgery. My surgeon was Alberto Aceves and he has done over 3000 lap band procedures. I knew of two other people who had gone this route so after figuring out how I could swing paying for the procedure myself I went for it. The hospital was new, clean and state of the art (Almater Hosp.) I received top notch care, a 1-night stay in a beautiful hotel, included my pre-op, 2-night hosp. stay and lifetime adjustments for $7,000. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I feel great and have lost 37 pounds since my surgery of 4/17/09. I feel so fortunate that I was able to skip all the "red tape" I would have had to undergo through Kaiser. I had my 1 month post op follow-up done through Kaiser 2 days ago and they have set me up with a nutritionist and scanned all my records from Mexicali into their system.

Let me know if you have anymore questions, I would be happy to answer them for you.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
